Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
I don't know what the heck I was thinking! Maybe it's because I built the chute without ever parking the dump truck next to it? maybe too busy looking at the conveyor?
the chute I built never had a chance! :eek::lol: http://youtu.be/Z_YAPFodBNM |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Hi Mario your gas station is cool . I won't mention any trains for awhile , but how about a cement mixer ? Could be cab over . Mike

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
I thought that you would get a kick out of seeing the video. I sub to his channel and as soon as I saw it was in Sault Ste Marie I thought of you. His next video had more Cat stuff and your service truck out on 17 as he was going east to Montreal.

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
I showed the video at work. Same confused faces at first, then a few guys got a wee bit upset about someone video taping on our property.......what a world we live in
Small update on the conveyor feed chute. I think version 2.0 might work much better. :). Hoping if all goes well, I should have the entire plant up and running dirt on the weekend! :D http://youtu.be/ru_0GfHuVCM |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
I am so happy with the new chute I built! :D can't believe how well it works right out of the gate! :bounce:

All in, I spent less than 100 bucks to build 2 conveyors. Freebies on stuff helps:) as much as I really enjoyed building my trucks and would love to build more, budget says otherwise. The pleasure of building in the yard for cheap and using everyday things around me is another great way to enjoy the " building " part of this hobby.:) Quote:
Now with docks, fuel stop and screener plant it's not a race track anymore! :) |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Walking through Canadian tire the other day and came across these little led snake lights.
http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psifajzynk.jpg i tried it out lastnight for the first time and the whole area lights up nicely. Unfortunately the pics aren't worth posting. My iPad ain't the greatest in low light :( Here's some day pics of them in place. http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psbcpydjwe.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pswqd6ikr1.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2oexxnym.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psc1jnhk1q.jpg |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
I've seen them too, but never had such a thought,... Good work Mario. :D
|
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Thanks Joe. Just a heads up on these lights. Once again I should have done a little more research but fortunately I have a plan B.
Back in crappy tire today and thought, maybe I'll get some spare batteries for these little lights. Almost had a heart attack when I realized it costs almost 12 bucks for 3 batteries!..... I bought every light they had on the shelf! 9 of them! How can they sell for 4 bucks when batteries cost 3 times that!? Anyway, no replacements, I'll be powering the lot of them from a external power source once batteries go dead thank you very much!:rolleyes::) |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
I'm guessing they are 6v so one big lead acid in the "office building" should do the trick!

Best part is the new motivation to keep going :bounce: the weight scale is next. Speaking of motivated, I finally got both conveyors officially done and all issues ironed out. The treadmill belt conveyor was giving me tracking problems. After 10 minutes or so, the belt would wander. Turned out to be a simple fix. Wrapped a strip of electrical tape about 5 times around the center of the drive roller. Gave it just enough of a hump to keep the belt from walking. Ran it for over 20 minutes and it now stays bang on, didn't move at all.:) The screener conveyor needed a wiper or brush to keep the dirt off the back side of belt. I mentioned an idea I had awhile back and finally got it done today. A few pics... Hard to get a good angle and show it but I'm sure you get the idea. http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0ffq4xeq.jpg Using some good old " shoe goo ". ( I love that stuff ! ). Glued the wiper blade to aluminum angle ..... http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5puud4hr.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pstnte9jax.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0wrgzlvm.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pszpapkt5c.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psswpxkrun.jpg |

Backyard update
I was having supper as I looked out our patio doors and figured I'd share a couple pics of the summer view in the yard. :) http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psly5irchd.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psemu0keqb.jpg Got the scale shack built today and the scale in place. It's great to have a play area but I can't help but think my RC fleet is as big as it is because of the play zone! no zone, I'd probably would have stuck with a couple trucks and trailers! So for anyone thinking about building a play zone....be fore warned! ;):cop::lol: Quote:

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Looks like great shade... can you be out there mid July afternoon without boiling?
Good work all around. Are you bringing in any stone to sort & start road building? |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Quote:
Unfortunately I do need to bring in some stone and good packing material. the dirt from the pit does pack well and has a good consistency to it but turns out once I run it through the screener and if no rain for a few days, I end up with literal beach sand! the screener removes the good stuff and there's less of that then the sand! For now I need to get a few pails of stone but hoping next year to get a few yards and start giving the area some elevation changes here and there and help with road building. |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
True to form, thinking of another build project.
I bought a cheap hobby engine crawler crane a few years ago with plans to upgrade the electronics and see if I could dig dirt or atleast feed the screener with it. Well, within a matter of months the cheap plastic tracks ( sure ain't rubber ) all cracked, split and fell apart. No big deal but it adds to the cost of upgrading and with exchange rates as they are makes it too costly. Well I'm famous for plan B and here it is! I'm going to use this as a dock crane. None of my cargo is actually heavy so no upgrades needed to the boom and hoist system. Just going to put a hook on it, modify the sprockets to drive on rails along the dock and install a ESC to control tramming speed.:D http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psnqh1yrms.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psampfw1fh.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psizmf0ver.jpg At first I was thinking of just cutting a hole in the dock and dropping the crane in to conceal the lower structure but figure the rails idea will make it much more versatile. |

Instead of rails, just slot the surface with a skil saw?

Mario how long is the track you need I could send you some real rail . Mike

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
All looks great Mario!! With the reach of crane and having it able to move that distance it should function well!! Can't wait to see!!

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Just got home from a trip to visit family and friends. While we were gone I happened to walk through the dollar store withi the wife and discovered some really cool mini lights!
I'm very happy with the lights I found at crappy tire and thought I was doing good with 4 bucks per light. But these other lights are much better and cheaper! Very bright, head and arm pivot and hold in whatever position, kinda look like street lights and..... 1.25 each. Replacement battery cost is 3 for 1.25. So a win win and of course I cleaned them out :). 10 lights for just under 15 bucks, can't go wrong. So for all you Canadians on the forum, keep an eye out for these at your local dollarama. :) http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8iggwrjm.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psxwipc3yr.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pscrwjxzoy.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psfwtvltkc.jpg |
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Correction!! The wife tells me the store was Dollar Tree. :o
|
Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Yes, fall is coming and the days are getting shorter but that's ok. I'm ready for it this year.:)
Got my street lights built using 3 simple ingredients. 1/2" plumbers plastic tubing, some of those wooden plug filler things and the lights I got from Dollar Tree. Which I'm now told is US based so not just a Canadian store. Anyway, here's how they turned out. Once again, simple, but effective.:D http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psmetrgwtg.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0ycgxg41.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psbtboypqn.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psdp4vqutc.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psrp464qv5.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psz2tcynni.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psapxcdp9r.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psbde6yxti.jpg |

You could run them with strung higher voltage DC and step down at the lights for real 1:1 look. :)
