Re: Steamer
That truck looks pretty big Rob. If only you knew someone with a big enough excavator to load it....
Thanks for the email:D |
Re: Steamer
Happy Birthday Rob. :)
Good work on the Mammoth! Is it still 4wd? Will you be using the rack & pinion to tip the bed? (it's got some great lifting power, just not enough stroke) How much wider is the bed from the original? |

Re: Steamer
Thanks Neil.
Reg. I'm hoping that there both finished up at the same time. Joe. TNT Lou was doing some house cleaning, so you've all ready drove this one. Over all the truck is 24" long 12" high 15" wide. She's still 4WD and the lift is being replaced with two Wedico pumps and I'm going to make two stage cylinders to do the lifting. Each cyl will have it's own pump so I think it will have lots of lift power. Steve, I'm sure you will be able to fill it very quickly with the drag line, it's just to bad we're all so far apart. Re: Steamer
Very nice truck!! What material is it made of? It must be really big if you have room for-2-hydraulic systems:eek:. My 777D is 1/30th scale but there is no way hydraulics will fit inside. Nice work

Re: Steamer
Nice conversion Rob. I like your fabrication work incorporating the styrene. So what are you going to use to load it?
|
Re: Steamer

Re: Steamer
Ahh, that Mammoth is awesome! I always wanted to see someone convert it to a more accurate truck. I'm glad you are doing just that! I wouldn't mind giving this a shot myself, someday, but these trucks are getting pricey and rare.

Re: Steamer
Just a couple of updates for the 789. Got some exhaust pipes and mufflers made and installed.
http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/.../Cat789006.jpg For model man, here's a shot of how the pumps are installed in the chassis. http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/.../Cat789005.jpg http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/...Cat7890042.jpg Next up is build the upper deck railings and then on to building the lift cylinders. Thanks for looking. Rob |
Re: Steamer
looks cool keep building!!!!!

Re: Steamer
Lookin real good Rob! How large are those tires?
|
Re: Steamer
Thanks Clyde. You bet, I'm having fun with this one.
Reg. Tamiya made these tires for the Mammoth and they're 6" dia 2 1/4" wide with a 2 1/2" rim. Made the rims from delron as they wanted $40.00 for a foot of 3" aluminum, and I couldn't find any scrap. Rob |
