Re: KH Beam Hauler
If you're looking for expanded metal material; try the steel office supply items like wastebaskets, desk organizers, pencil holders, etc. I have found them painted black or silver at Office Depot and even Wal-Mart. They are made with a round tube framework, to which the expanded metal-looking screen is welded. If you buy a large piece (a wastebasket, for example) and cut away the frame; you end up with a large sheet of strong screen material that you can cut to whatever size you need. You'll have to frame it with something though, as the raw edges are sharp! -Mike

Re: KH Beam Hauler
Check the mesh of your basket against whatever they're selling in the office products section. For some reason, when I look at your photo, it seems like the mesh is larger than the one I found, (maybe it's just me). When I measure the mesh with a ruler, I find that the height of the 'diamonds' are 4 to the inch, and (measuring diagonally and counting the width of the 'diamonds') they are 7 to the inch. But, unless your dimensions are radically different, then it probably doesn't matter all that much - was just curious if there are different sizes out there.

Re: KH Beam Hauler
If you ever get rid of an old microwave oven, the metal mesh in the door window is perfect for this use. Most of these doors are held together with a dozen or so screws and come apart pretty easily. The metal used is pretty thin and will bend or kink if you aren't careful when handling it.

Re: KH Beam Hauler
Haha love it Bo!
|
Re: KH Beam Hauler
Looks like your little nuts came in giant boxes. Seriously though, WTF? 15 in one box? What a waste of packaging.
|
Re: KH Beam Hauler
For us mere mortals, the boxes are too much overkill but to them it would cost way too much to retool a smaller box, then they don't sit in the distribution center or delivery box correctly.
It's funny, but everyone does it. If they can reuse a large box, the smaller part(s) go in and they save money. I've seen it with aftermarket car electronic parts (back in the old days) and some just don't want to change over so to them, it's not a waste. Anyway, back to the build... I love the bumper dressing here. The lettering and the diagonal stripes sure make a bold statement and if I ever wanted to make a hauler of some sort, I'll need those black and yellow bumpers. And I do appreciate the many pictures taken on what you have done so far. It helps motivate me to get something done. |
Re: KH Beam Hauler
Well Panther i'm slowly recover from unboxing the Nuts..... And outside is cold and gnarly.........Why not mess around with the Lathe and make some ultra super wide wheels.
