Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Nice video Joe!
The ripper looked right at home in that clay, tomorrow i will go out for some digging! :) |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Hey Joe, thank's for the chuckle, I.E. the critter's:p While I was in the Phillipine's, I had to catch gecko lizard's, for pest control in the barrack's:eek:
They did a mighty fine job:D Glad to hear you like the ripper, I built one for my mini excavator-sure handy! Cheer's, Neil#2 aka doodlebug. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Can you make a video with the HK Hoe Getting dirt out of the hole? Have you had any mechanical issues with the HK Hoe?
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Well I finnished harvest a few hrs ago, I wish I had another 1000ac to do yet, I luv running my CR9060, barely broke it in @just over 100 seperator hrs. :(
So yeah, perhaps this wkend I'll make some movies with the HK. The track motors are very weak, the slightest bit of dirt in the links stalls them out! I positioned the arm perpendicular to the tracks to lift the stall track & while moving the track for/rev, slap the bottom of it with my hand to clean the debris out of the links. One other thing that seems very odd. I'm using 10W hyd oil, the pump strains somewhat for a few minutes of operation while I'm using it, it seems the oil has to warm up some before the pump motor mellows & flows the oil smoothly to the cyls. I'm using the same oil in my 850, no hesitation from the word go. But then the 850's motor to pump connection is a 1:2.5 belt drive (I didn't actually measure it) instead of the HK's direct connection. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
look's good buddy but don't dig too deep or you will have water coming in lol. glad to hear you all your toy's are working good.
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
jeeze i lurk for like a couple months and your moving and your digging a 4ft hole in the basement?!
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
The well is 90 foot deep, so I think I'm safe yet. :D
Not everything is working good yet Martin, but in another month or so I'll have nothing but time to work at it... hard to believe another growing year has come & gone again already, how do we slow time down? So what have you two characters been up to? Have you put away your life jackets yet? |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
time flys when your haveng fun wish there was a way to slow it down
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
lol life jackets are gone but the effects will be here for a couple years. have to re-level the place every couple months cause its sinking now.. its about 4" into the ground since we moved back after the flood thing.
Planning on going to the model engineering show. Gotta get away out to mog's and work on the Unit crane. servo went in it and it never was really finished.. just life got in the way lol |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Good to hear you're starting to get life somewhat back to normal. My corrals are still under water, weaning the calves for market at the end of this month is gonna be an interesting task to complete. :D
To my surprise I discovered a couple nights ago that there's atleast three of them gators down there now. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0642.jpg Last Sunday this the amount of dirt before I started hauling... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0636.jpg And by evenings end I got this much out, about thrity five loads. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0646.jpg This is the total to date that I've taken from the basement, though not all of it is there as I've used some of it around the yard to fill in holes & low areas. This subsoil clay packs as hard as cement. I taketh away from the side of my house with my farm FEL to pile it over there. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0647.jpg Now here is the pile to move out today. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0644.jpg I use the 850, as it's just four scoops to fill the trk. :D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0639.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0640.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0641.jpg |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
wow! you have been busy!
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Where do you get those scale Gator's Joe ! ! LOL
Was it a good year crop wise ? Looks like you have got some good weather and have been busy moving dirt.... You need some more equipment operators out there ! Greg |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Some good, some not so good Greg. My spring wht froze mid Sept before it fully matured, find out here shortly how it grades & for what price. I didn't hit the lottery this yr by any means, but I'm pretty sure I did well enough to farm another yr without needing to talk to the banker. :D
Indeed it was a great weather day! The one great thing about the 1st Fall frost is all the squiters are gone! :D The WA500 got the nod to load trks today, even put the Lil Giants flagship trk to work as well (after the tx for the green GL died half thru) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0648.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0649.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0650.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0651.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0652.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0653.jpg It's fun to use this trk/pup to haul out, but I have to go outside to dump it so I don't snap the hitch when I jack knife the pup to dump the trk... lots of excercise I guess while play too. :D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0654.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0655.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0658.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0659.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0660.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0661.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0662.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0663.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0664.jpg The dozer grooming the pile to smooth it out - pack it so the 6x6's can start a new layer next Sunday. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0665.jpg I didn't quite get it all hauled out, but then if the weather is decent this week I won't have much time for digging anyway. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0668.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0669.jpg |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Thanks for the photo's and update Joe ! Sun, dirt and construction models, what more could a guy ask for... Well beer and a lawn chair I guess..... lol
greg |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Joe, progress is looking great. Good to see the dumper and pup back out in the sun and getting some excercise as well. Looking like the whole thing is working smoothly these days.
Tyler |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Glad to see you have time to move some dirt. Great pics. But I still think you need a bigger dozer, I just sayin. lol
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Hey Joe, if its raining this weekend *knock on wood it goes away* that model engineering show is on :D
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Martin was telling me that next yr is the 25th Aniversary, for sure I'll make it to that one, should be a memorable event. ;)
I'd like to bring my 850 to show off its size & power, but I don't have it working perfectly yet. I got the u/c booked in with the local machinist on monday, so I'll have to tear it down this wkend. Perhaps a flask of rye or butter ripple Greg, it aint summer anymore. :( Cheers Tyler, the rc's have been relatively trouble free all summer. :) Tim, the 850's bucket is pretty huge, probably 3 or 4 scoops for each tub... I betcha I could load your train inside of five minutes. Boy oh boy, the two of us could move a mountain of dirt on just one charge alone! :D I've thought about your D9 often Joe, it's a magnificient beast & also too efficient as well, it'd get 'er all done in one or two passes. :D About time for you to start another project though, eh? I just about got the top of the wall cleared off & then just keep digging the hole deeper till the snow flies in a month or so. ;) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0672.jpg Thanx for your interest gentlemen. |

I really like that last picture also joe!! I don't know how you get any farming done with this many toys to run and this much dirt to move:D
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Thanx suivinson. :)
Moderation Tom. There's always things to do on the farm, but gotta have a lil fun at the end of the day too. :) Like today for instance. :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7d8rn5uhO9g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bT_bPYA4RrY Working the 850 so hard in this clay, I have trouble with this wrist pin working its way out to the left every few hrs. Have you had this trouble at all Kalle? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0675.jpg |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Dam Joe that picture looks like a 1:1.
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Cheers Jeremy. :)
Got the top of the wall all cleared off today so it's ready for excavation when the snow flies soon. Boy oh boy, quite a dramatic change in temps in just the past few days, gonna have to start wearing long johns everyday soon.... brrrr  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0686.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0690.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0692.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5u-iQTdMfqY |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
wow, Great video's as always, Lil Giants, I like your models because they look like they would if the were 1:1 machines, i.e. well used and careworn,
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
I have to agree with everyone else! That picture of the Volvo dumping in front of the grain bins had me fooled too. At first glance I thought you might have bought yourself a 1:1 Volvo ADT. That is a great photo.

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Really?! I don't see it... too use to that view I guess. :D
Wish I could of got a pic or video of the mud bogging I was doing this morning in my corrals with my 800 Sportsman... weaned calves & shipped to market, sale tomorrow. Had three cows standing in the middle of the water, me & my 3 helpers standing at water's edge throwing mud lumps at them... it was like they were standing there grinning at us, come get me :). Their eyes got wide when the quad came roaring out there! :D It was about 200 feet of 30" deep muck! Thank you for your compliments. :) |
Working the 850 so hard in this clay, I have trouble with this wrist pin working its way out to the left every few hrs. Have you had this trouble at all Kalle?
I have had that problem Joe, but not with the particular one in you picture, i had the one that connects the boom to the undercarrige come loose, i installed a grubscrew there, i had 2 of the pins the connects the quick coupler come loose as well, i used a little of Locktite cylindrical (648) glue to fasten them, worked great and i can still get them out quite easy. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
I thought you were just trying to be artistic and playing around with Tilt Shift, then realised you have far more important things to do. As always thanks for the update, its always great to see your collection getting a good workout.
If you do get bored play around with Tilt Shift, http://vimeo.com/3156959 this is made from Tilt shift pics into a timelapse and here http://tiltshiftmaker.com/ a site to make some, you can achieve better with photoshop ect but still its free and easy. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Thanx for the info Kalle. :)
It was a fluke footprint, I swear! :D I got the last of the loose soil tidied up last wkend & sealed up the window, it's getting cold out there, hurricane winds out of the south all week brought this to me yesterday. :( http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0707.jpg Last wkend's activities. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0694.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0695.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0696.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0697.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkKRI5i-Tks I got started this week mining down the last 8x3x5 cube of the remaining south wall. I'm gonna try to do it all with the rc's, no hand digging... AND NO BLASTING EITHER!!! so spare me those comments, I'm not playing with explosives in my basement. ;) I employed #1 for the 1st time in nearly two yrs with putting a drill on it. It's a 3000rpm motor with a 5/16 masonary bit. Drill down a few inches so the 850's ripper tooth can rip up the bone dry, rock hard clay. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0702.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0701.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXsvf_Fo_fw I'm hoping this week that I can get my 850's u/c to the machinist so I can get my track drive upgrade installed. As it is now, the 850 is immobile... good thing that it has a long reach & can dig a wide area without moving. I just about blew a testicle lifting it up there though. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
that is a deep hole, when do u expect it to fill with water? Is that for a future sump pump? I see ur original excavator has a new life.
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Never. :D
I dug the hole so I would have somewhere to "stack" the dirt from the south wall that I knock down this winter. Most of it should fill this hole, with the remainder filling the air gap of the wood crib. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Joe-you are really creative in coming up with ways to deal with that hard dirt! Nice job!
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Great video's Joe
I looks like old man winter is there now, good thing you got some dirt moved outside this fall... You sure know how to make that WA500 shine, it seems to work great ! You have got to have the hardest dirt I have ever seen, great idea on the rock drill idea.. Keep up the good work greg |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Thanx Tom, it's been a challange to do as much as possible with the rc's.
Last wk I was hauling clay dirt from a new development in town (contractor giving it away & free loading) with my Mack tandem & pup, fixed alot of pounded down areas in my dad's yard, a couple of passes over with my FEL & it's hard as cement. Drive over it with a loaded trk & it doesn't leave track in the soil. It's pretty dense clay! I was watching the 657 pans the week before, they were only cutting 3-4 inches depth per pass... lucky them it wasn't a typical dry yr. Still scheming on a jackhammer Greg, I've got that hammer attachment we pick up at Canadian Tire that day sitting on my workbench right now, trying to figure how I can make it work. That Leibherr color hoe broke its boom a few months ago, thinking about removing the boom/stick entirely and fastening the hammer in its place, using the boom cyls to lift it up/down... I hope an idea comes to me soon, the drill works ok, but I don't think it will have much for longevity. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Hey Joe have you considered one of the smaller hammer drill's, corded or cordeless?
Later, Neil. |
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
I did a corded one some time ago for the hammer part of the drive, tinkering moreso with that one now rather than the CT one. Might have a test run before the wkend. :D
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Great videos Joe, that WA-500 looks like it runs great, not much wheelspin, is it very good grip there or does it just grip? Anything you dont like about it?
|
Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Thanx Kalle. :) The model has plenty of power & can spin the wheels easily. I try not to. It grips well, I can't recall if I ever weighed it (don't personally have a scale), probably close to twenty 20 pounds.
I can't think of anything negative to say about it, it works really well. One of these days soon I'll install a DX6 radio so I can mix the pump/valves, make it work even better. If you haven't heard already, Lars Stahl shut 'er down in September... don't know if he's taking a break to regroup or if he's done forever. Hopefully Leimbach & son will take over his side of it, it'd be a shame to see these simple working, but very durable models disappear from the marketplace. Klaus Leimbach & the late Harald Stahl are the pioneers that got this rc construction model hobby started in the early 90's. |
