wow Reg... awesome truck .. looks great with the logs.

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
Thanks Joe. I think for the price I will run a Sabertooth as well. I have them in all of my other scratch builds so it keeps it simple and I haven't seen much in the $70 range that works as well for these things.
Thanks Jason, It definitely looks squished with logs!lol |

Hey Reg, take a look at this sound module? http://www.beier-electronic.de/model...-rc/usm-rc.php
I used google translate to get English. Scroll down and click the various engine sounds. Cheer's, Neil. |
Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
Great work Neil, I never heard of this place before http://www.strikemodels.com/products/speed-controllers/ and reading the Blog area, the company just move to Washington, so that's just a short hop for you Reg. ;)
I just phoned in my order for four Viper Marine 15 esc's, then they'll send me a PayPal invoice via email. They said they have them in stock & will be going out today. |

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
It's been a couple of weeks since I've really accomplished much on this but today I did a little more to the trailer axles and finished up the radiator louvers. At least the rad doesn't look like it's missing anymore!

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
A worthy addition to the KW 850, Reg. I like it. Are those radiator shutters? If so, are they going to be functional? Just kidding! :D

What cars do you have covered up there Reg? |

Hey Reg, I like the shutter's!
Have you looked into that sound module yet, it's supposed to be "programmable", Just wondering about getting that bumblebee's on steroid's sound, LOL! Cheer's, Neil. |
Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
Haven't looked into the module yet Neil. It looks like it might work though.
Ben, 85 Chevy S-10(had it since I was 16, far from stock), 2000 Cavalier Z24, supercharged + a few other things. The 850 almost has some peeps. A little more cleanup work on them to do yet though. http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...psdbaf24d0.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps074eddfb.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5dfd9d69.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps933badb7.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps89199694.jpg Thanks for looking! |

I haven't done much with the vehicles the last few years...something else seems to have taken over all my free time and money:confused: It is nice to take the truck out for a trip down memory lane every now and then though:D When I started building toys I thought it was great because they didn't take up much space and they were much cheaper to build. Now that I have a few I've realized that I was wrong! My shop needs to get bigger or something needs to go... The shutters are made out of...well um, shutters. Sort of anyway. I took a couple of strips off of an old plastic window blind and trimmed them down. I figured that it already had a bit of a curve so I thought I would give it a try. I think it turned out OK and the best part is that it was free. Reg |
Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
Headlights are looking great, Reg. You seem to have a knack for making nice parts with your rotary table. Makes me want to buy one and give it a shot. Does it take some time to get the knack of one? Or is it as simple as calculating everything out, from the center of your radius?

Finished fitting the headlamp assembly today. I'm not sure if I will put lights in these right away but they are set up to do so.
Does anyone know where I could get a set of Kinghauler clearance lights? I need 5 of them. The headlights are perfect, Reg! Boy, this thing is almost finished. I wish I could get as much done on my projects as you do, in a short time.

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
Plenty of work left to do yet but now it's all the tedious stuff like door handles, brake boosters, mirrors ect. I get bored with that stuff and tend to rush it or not do it at all. I'm trying not to do that on this one!

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
I did a little more work on the trailer today. I pushed the bearings into the axles tubes and attached the hubs/rims. I also got started on the walking beams.

I did a little more work on the trailer this morning. Another project is pulling me away for a while this afternoon but I wish I could keep working on this!

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
Amazing project. Took a couple of hours today to read the whole thread. Thanks for sharing. Great to see how you are doing what you do. I was curious about the battery you are using for this truck. Could you tell us what kind that is? Looking forward to seeing how this project comes out when completed.

It's going to be a model of our 1:1 troller-longliner. I'm building it for a friend of mine that worked for us for 9 years. He's the best man at our upcoming wedding and I plan on giving it to him then. I gotta get moving on it!

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
Well I was out in the garage shortly after 5am this morning to get some more work done on the trailer. I still have a few pieces to weld on but I am out of argon and apparently we are still suffering from a shortage in our area. I had trouble getting a bottle when I started this 4 months ago:confused:. I phoned around today was told the same story so I have my name on a list to get one if they come in next week:mad:. Anyway I was able to get myself to a point where I need or can do a bunch of machining on the axles and walking beams so that will keep me busy for a few hours. My boat is out of the mold and is ready for some attention as well so I have lots to do!

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
RCP57-the truck is coming along nicely. I will be watching the boat build also. I was a mold maker and boat builder for 12+ years. Did you get mad at one of your 3/8" rollers or did you bend it that way for a purpose:D

Reg, your trailer is really coming along nicely. Sure looks good. Have you got the 850 sitting on blocks to prevent flat spots in the tires?

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
RCP57-I was on the opposite end of the spectrum. We built RACE BOATS!!! My brother and I started out building one-off custom race boats from wood and then switched to fibreglass to increase production. After doing that for years I started building R/C model race boats from wood and fibreglass which I built and raced for 22 years until I had to quit because of my eyes, but they are still being built today. If you look in the non-RC section on page-2-under "something completely different by modelman" there are some pictures of a wood boat I built for one of my customers. Don't want to get your thread off topic so I will shut up.:D

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
I spent a lot of time fiddling with small things today. I was inspired by my newly acquired clearance lights to build the air horn today. I also decided to make some pins for various places on the truck(even the Euc got one lol). While doing this the light bulb came on that I had a piece of hose(cough, hoarder) that I could make hump hoses out of for the air cleaners. A quick search for the right box of junk led me to the hose and a couple of quick cuts with my scissors and.....

I just need to make up some little wire clamps once everything is painted. http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps49a60014.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps51de731b.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps692fe0ae.jpg http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3c34b282.jpg Thanks for looking |
