Re: JBC limited NZ
loader cleaning a path to the dig site
a lot of roots to deal with, will need the excavator with ripper to do the job. we will see how smart this site is. may be back to the gravel pit , time will tell. http://youtu.be/HfOAtP6AMdk cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
had enough of tree roots so, the dozer was fired up.
Im thinking a little manual spade work is also needed. video time http://youtu.be/B1gOnnFDEbc cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
had a little spare time so I made some ears for the dump truck,
Had some stainless tube lying around so a little welding and job done. http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...pshn361rco.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psclugysn2.jpg cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
more average weather , so moved the screening plant and sorted out where the crusher plant will sit.
ran a few trailer loads and spread on new road. http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psmuoj39si.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8fjd5jlg.jpg and a quick video http://youtu.be/E1NJe_013Xc |

Nice set up

Re: JBC limited NZ
I just read through your entire thread and noticed a few things. First, what a great fleet and a lot accomplished!
You asked me way back when what kind of run time I get out of a 8400. Now that I have motor speed correct and some time at the controls, I get a solid hour and a half run time. I've got 2 of them. A .gens ace and a traxxas. The gens fits nicely, the traxxas is a little bigger and a snug fit. I'm glad I did read through, I don't know where the heck I was but I had missed a lot of great info from you and Joe about radio settings for the 4200! Thanks again for sharing and can't wait to see what's next. :) |
Re: JBC limited NZ
im very much like you, no more building until winter starts again. LOL.
but having said that Ive always wanted to build a scraper to be towed by the dozer. I have wheels and servos already so...... |

Re: JBC limited NZ
I might have to look at the bigger battery option, thanks Mario.
I don't think Ive ever had a group family photo of the construction company, I do know it has grown ever so slightly so I took a couple of pictures of my addiction. Im going to need a bigger shed to store them in. :jaw: http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psfnwsceqq.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psmkmmkcao.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psdrfb9l6o.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...pswsjz5fiu.jpg |
Re: JBC limited NZ
Nice fleet!
|
Re: JBC limited NZ
:jaw:wow you have a great fleet only thing left to get is a grader then you have it made congratulations :bounce:
|
Re: JBC limited NZ
Family photos can really put things into perspective. That's why I stopped taking them. Lol.
I wonder what life would be like if I had a neighbour like you. :D Probably be divorced in no time  Sweet fleet Andy! |
Re: JBC limited NZ
divorced and broke LOL
showed the wife the photos, her comment was "I thought you had more than that" So I better start building a few more. going to do some googeling on scrapers for the next project. cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
you would likely have the best back yard ever haha
|
Re: JBC limited NZ
I finally had a bit of spare time to play with the radio settings for the loader.
I've slowed the steering and bucket drop speed and it looks way better. next on the list is main drive acceleration. I want to slow that , but first I need to charge the battery again..... https://youtu.be/a1kDuEwNe7U |
Re: JBC limited NZ
I had a play with the hyd system in the excavator.
I pulled all the servos off the valves and centred them. man I wish I had done this years ago, so much better and easier to control, next on the list is to sort the slew motor, I have wear in the shaft and gear causing the wobbles when you stop the movement. heres a quick video of the before and after :) https://youtu.be/bLsvjFPvOsI |
Re: JBC limited NZ
Running great Andy. I can't imagine operating with a drifting boom, bet your happy that's gone.:)
The sloppy slew. Did you try to snug the motor pinion up to swing gear at all? I've got excessive slop also but notice there is some adjustment possible. Going to wait until winter shut down before dealing with it. And happy summer to ya! :) |
Re: JBC limited NZ
cheers Mario,
yes much happier with the operation. when I first got it I pulled it apart to see how it worked... guess I put it back together a little wonky and always had to issue to a small degree. I remembered reading something on this forum about centring the valves , gave it a go and discovered my mistake now it works great. the problem with the slew is a worn motor shaft, too much slop between shaft and gear. looks like the grub screw was always a little loose and scored the shaft, a new motor should fix the problem. Im on a quest at the moment to get a 1969 Plymouth road runner and may end up having to get on a plane and visit the US to view a few . Have a guy here who dose this for a job ( friend of a friend) but our low dollar is making things a little expensive Have been told by the Mrs that I cant load up the container with RC toys " your going for a car and that's all"..... not a hundred percent sure what she means by that but if any one can recommend a good model shop in or around Arizona I wont say anything.... cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
had a little play time so I had another go at the radio settings for the loader.
so far I have dropped the steering speed by 50% bucket drop also set at 50% and main drive motor max speed is at 40% in reverse and 50% forward. I could have just used the switch on the radio to lock the diffs and slow it down but I figured leaving it unlocked it would place less stress on the axels . pretty happy with how this loader is working now, just that dam noisy pump.... https://youtu.be/RNuLJd2LVuo cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
Hey Andy,
Why the Bier sound card? Did the other one stop working? tao |
Re: JBC limited NZ
I had the beier sound card sitting on desk for a while and I want to get the hydraulic fluid sound thing happening when the rams move and also a few more realistic sounds happening.
also, I stole the sound card out of the excavator for my KH dump truck build. I need to spend a bit of time trying to work out how Im going to do it , but I have a plan... just need to find the time. cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
while the wife is off having a good time on a girls trip over seas I have been tasked with getting the vege garden sorted...
Step up the excavator soon to be followed by the loader. not sure how I will plant the produce in the ground but at least I've made a start. a quick video so far https://youtu.be/UR8AO0sguqI |
Re: JBC limited NZ
made a few changes to the dozer, fitted some aluminium track runners to stop the tracks coming off.
not quite right as you can hear the pop rivets holding the track pads hitting the runners. out with the grinder tomorrow. heres a quick vege garden video https://youtu.be/A6SouJ-90hE |
Re: JBC limited NZ
summer is on its way, found a possible track to run the semis on.
problem is that it is at serious altitude, with a 6 - 10 foot drop [roll to the bottom] . which wouldn't be good for the trucks. got the excavator in to make a start on the road but will need the dozer and a water cannon to clear most of the really hard dirt before I can start to make a driveable road . just happen to have a Polaris ranger, a generator and water pump , so that part is going to be easy. almost lost the excavator a couple of times but the camera must have stopped..... like my heart. here's a short movie of what Im up against https://youtu.be/5AehQHE-npM |
Re: JBC limited NZ
Cool video, but it looks like you got your work cut out.

Re: JBC limited NZ
yes a plan is always good, but sometimes it changes... LOL
plan changed a little , needed to make some room for the new esc,s much bigger and complete with fans. so hashed up something that will do the job. heres the new 2mm engine cover http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...pss1sjhll0.jpg radiator cover http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psfcjuyr6q.jpg almost there http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psrymlapdm.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psgtxlqbbw.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...pseb32tggm.jpg will print up some doors and handles to give it a little more detail once the paint has dried properly . cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
made a start on another project that has been sitting in the shed for a while now, the mighty KAT excavator.....
I know its lightly built and basically rubbish, but I think I can make it a little better than when it arrived. The base was slightly bent and a little wobbly, just too lightly built. a $80 purchase of a 3mm thick steel half sheet and the job begins Im going to use the same set up as in the rc4wd excavator as I have all the parts already. I have ordered 3 large ecs,s for the tracks and turntable , now its just a matter of making it all fit inside. I used the original base plate as a template for the top half and reproduced all the other panels and welded them together to give it some more rigidity http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psuqkwnmne.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psg9bwavzx.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4scdnylw.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psgtrhowls.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psuqufi9de.jpg wasn't happy with how the way the main boom rams were fitted , so added an extra mounting point to stop any possible twisting. http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psklwvjtwf.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...pshkh4uz5d.jpg need to sort a few panel gaps , also instead of a counter weight at the back I may make a built in oil tank to save a bit of room for the electrics. http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...pswyqx4eus.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psbiz2k4wx.jpg a new bucket and quick release is also in order as is rebuilding the track set up. but first mission is to get it digging for the summer and the youngest will be happy. basically I think I will be using the KAT as a template to build a whole new excavator. :o |
Re: JBC limited NZ
So as it turns out the KAT is only good for a template..
made up a new set of booms out of 3mm sheet and welded them up. I have predrilled the pivot points but will make up some brass bushes and stainless shafts. This isn't turning out to be a ten minute job. a little CAT code paint make it look better http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psnmewrlul.jpg add one new boom set up and a new steel bucket. http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psvay1soru.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psjvzyax95.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psbzqrvzgp.jpg and the 4200's new look http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...pskzaneil5.jpg cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
Looking good Andy. Always nice to have a second digger. I really like the 4200 upgrades. The cat walks is a nice touch. Tracks look a little loose though?
|
Re: JBC limited NZ
I can't remember, do you have an interior in the 4200? And have you seen this? I just discovered a few days ago..
https://www.ttm-shop.de/katalog/arti...uer-ttm-bagger |
Re: JBC limited NZ
cheers Mario,
yes the track tensioners need looking at, hopefully just full of dirt :o I have seen that interior and at 89 pounds , nearly $250 kiwi that wont happen anytime soon :D the cab on the 4200 is a cheap ebay special, quite a bit smaller than the standard but it came with a complete interior. http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psh3aamwk6.jpg cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
Looks good Andy, and keep those outside pics and videos coming, you are heading into summer and I'm watching the leaves drop for winter. So it will be nice to see some sun and green with your equipment working :)

Re: JBC limited NZ
still waiting on paint to dry on the arms, so I used up the original decal sheet that came with the excavator.
Young fella likes it so that will do me. crammed the esc's into the front of the excavator , mounted pump and valves. still have a little room to play with but will have to make a new tank as its slightly too high and cant close engine cover. http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3dvgbbcn.jpg I also sprayed the tracks with a light coat of a scoria colour to try and get a rusty look..... dosent look too bad. :o http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...pssykgzglr.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psphborafq.jpg cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
wow Andy, the new digger is looking good. Is it just me or is the upper structure much longer than a 4200? Ouch! I forgot about the exchange rate and I think you have a much better alternative for the interior.
Wondering how the crusher project is going btw? Haven't seen much on it lately. |
Re: JBC limited NZ
hi Mario,
Side by side the two excavators are almost the same length in the upper structure, did toy with the idea of adding 50mm to the 4200 but it was getting too hard and couldn't be bothered. It may happen at a later date. the crusher is still not running, I have the attention span of a house fly and am never happy unless I have too many projects on the go at the same time. cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
more brilliant NZ weather , so I spent some time in the shed.
walkways, exhaust , air filter and all hydraulic lines done. All joints bushed and sleeved. Also made up a mechanical thumb. This still needs some clean up work and painting. when the thumb is down it has a latch that holds it in place, which I want to revisit as its a little rough. :o http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psbnxiyhuc.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...pszgketiss.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4gfw9nhp.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3acxzzgc.jpg http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...psibsfukqh.jpg cheers andy |

thank you, I like the new look but the more I look at it , it looks too short.
Just another job to do. think ive found the solution for my thumb on the CAT. doing a bit of youtubeing this morning and found this, super simple .:cool: https://youtu.be/7NpREiGCLOk cheers andy |
Re: JBC limited NZ
