Re: D11 New Project

Today we was able to hook up the speed controller to do a small motor drive test. Maybe next week a rolling test?
Thanks for looking- Paul

Great job Paul can't wait to see it rolling. Ed

Very nice! The motor and drivetrain seems virtually silent and is as smooth as can be.

The latest update is the start of the back plate to the chassis.

Ok It's been a long time coming but this week it runs for the first time.:)
I think the sealed battery used is not suitable, I will continue to test the drive system with other types of batteries (Lipo)
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did driving.:bounce:

That's looking really great! Will it spin the tracks on carpet or have you even had time to test it's strength?

Keep up the great work!

Nice work Paul, looking forwart to see this beast pushing dirt.

Thanks for the good comments,
Trying to get it to turn on the spot is a problem at the moment.
12v at the battery and after the servonaut m220 only 8.5v at the motors not sure why. any ideas?
Paul

Re: D11 New Project

Here is another vid showing a bit of power pushing a trolley (about 40kg) on concrete.
The blade weighs nearly 4kg on it's own(steel) and I think this is the issue for turning as when the blade is off turning is no problem. The new blade will be made from ali and will weigh about 1 kg. I also have put a lipo 14.8v battery on board to try to get better performance. Testing continues.

Re: D11 New Project

I'm not sure what would cause the voltage drop. I know that happens with my Volvo occasionally because the slew ring I made doesn't always make good contact but I doubt a wiring connection is your problem. I have learned the hard way though that it takes a tremendous amount of power to turn a heavy model on grass or carpet. You may find that your motors are just not up to snuff. The machine looks awesome though and seems to function perfectly on smooth concrete so I'm sure if you can up the power somehow it will be fantastic!

Thanks Reg,
I now have 4s lipo and have set the speed controller to 100%, so at full charge on the battery I get 16.3v. This has made a big difference. The speed is too fast for scale so a change in gear ratio is coming in the next week or so. I am waiting for a delivery from Germany for some new gears from my friend.
This will make the scale speed better and have a lot more torque.
Here is a new video. Hope you like it.

Hello Paul very nice video. I't a shame you can't put a hi and low speed in your drive system. I believe dirtpusher 9 used drill motors and used the hi and low system from them and from what I seen it worked great. LilGiants Joe has the dozer now. That way you would have the fast speed when traveling and a low speed when pushing. Ed

Looking good! Looks like you need to get some wear on those tracks so that they hang a little more...sounds like a great excuse to run the **** out of it to me! I'm sure the gearing change will get you right where you want to be. Keep posting updates!

Re: D11 New Project

Looking great Paul...

It will be interesting to see what the gearing reduction brings... If the current gearing running at 100% is comparable to the travel speed, then I would be tempted to leave it... and see if the power is enough at lower speeds.

Either way it is looking great and I will have to make the trip over when it's finished and see it in the flesh!

Cheers,
AP

Awesome! It moves under it's own power. Very satisfying!

This is fantastic pal. I'd love to own one of these!! Dont have the skill to build one unfortunately.

I am a big fan of your project and I really enjoy watching the :update:.

The machine looks great itself :bounce: but I'll suggest that you invest a bit more on motors, i.e. you might want to consider brushless and increase your gear reduction ratio. If I were you, I will go for 150A ESC, 6S Liop, low KV motors...it woudl be a waste if you don't go for the last mile on such fine machine. The other small suggestion, engine sound is not speed dependent...it stays flat. you can consider to upgrade your sound module in the future. Awesome work! :)

Best regards,
Kevin

Thank you for sharing this with us!

Thanks for looking Kevin,
The gearing on the motors are still under test, new gears are on the way to me now and will provide even more torque than now. At the moment it will push about 30-40kg on concrete so with the change of gears it will be better than that. If I need more pushing power than that I would stop drinking beer for a week:D( maybe not: ) The speed controller is a SMX from Servonaut, can you please let me know of another to upgrade to as this is the only type I know of.
Paul
