Smokey and the Bandit Truck and Trailer Replica
hi guys and gals ..i know this truck has been done probably a million times in r/c now....i decided to build one to add to my collection of famous trucks and trailers from the movies and TV.its based on the kinghauler chassis and the coffin bunk has been scratchbuilt and again the hood which was cut down to a short nose from Eric Oehme, the trailer is based on the tamiya van/box trailer .i set the suspension all the way to the rear, the custom mudflaps are from exclusive r/c ,rear trailer bumper scratchbuilt and painted by me .The sheet decals are from a gent over in the UK which you can find on e-bay .I tried to stay as true to the real truck even down to the scratchbuilt square small front bumper with the hood step in it ..hope you like it :)

Re: Smokey and the Bandit Truck and Trailer Replica
Not sure what was up with some of the trucks in the movies back then running without at least rear 1/4 fenders...the same as the Blue Mule from White Line Fever ..

Re: Smokey and the Bandit Truck and Trailer Replica
After just seeing smokey and the bandit in the movie theatre for its 40th anniversary special showing, I have always loved the movie but seeing it remastered was a life changing experience. And I can really appreciate this build even more now Dwayne.

Re: Smokey and the Bandit Truck and Trailer Replica
Love the truck paintjob! You really nailed it. it looks AWESOME, the picture of it sitting on the gravel, looks like it could have been a publicity shot for the movie.

Re: Smokey and the Bandit Truck and Trailer Replica
Hi there, I’m new here and I’ve been searching hi and low for a thread on the snowman’s truck, there’s a few questions, what bumper did you use, hood grill and lamps as the truck in movie had round twin lamps?
I can’t see your pics as my internet is playing up :( thanks James |
Re: Smokey and the Bandit Truck and Trailer Replica
It's not just you, his threads are out of pics on Here, Scale4x4, and i can't find a thread on Midwest
Poke around his youtube account? https://youtu.be/nV-sJfYbVR8 |
Re: Smokey and the Bandit Truck and Trailer Replica
not to thread jack, but i 3d printed one for my replica in progress
http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=640x480 i also printed a front mount, i think i had to lower the bumper down a tad http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=640x480 |
Re: Smokey and the Bandit Truck and Trailer Replica
That is an amazing job, what did you make light covers out of and how ? Also is the original truck brown or black ?
|
Re: Smokey and the Bandit Truck and Trailer Replica
the headlight trim are bezels from rc4wd i believe. and as far as i can tell, the truck is black with gold stripes

Re: Smokey and the Bandit Truck and Trailer Replica
You are spot on with your truck, it’s awesome, hope you don’t mind all my questions? I noticed you cut your sleeper down? Will the mfu kit fit with this sleeper shortened ? I appreciate all your help by the way
|
Re: Smokey and the Bandit Truck and Trailer Replica
i haven't tried to fit the mfu yet. may have to go with servonaut or something
|
Re: Smokey and the Bandit Truck and Trailer Replica
Hi, have you managed to fit the mfu yet? I still don’t have a truck but I want to get as much information as possible first, now you shortened the sleeper is there room for battery? I don’t mind about not having the interior, as long as the tamiya mfu fits . Thanks James

Re: Smokey and the Bandit Truck and Trailer Replica
If i didn't know better, with all the necro posts i'd think you really wanted to build a Snowman outfit...
You can fit smaller 2S lipos that have similar or better Ah ratings than the stick packs these were designed for. There are other options than the MFU that might fit your needs You could swap the 3speed for a straight gear reduction, or even a 2-spd to gain more room under the body. Check out some of the Day Cab builds that are full of options. If they can do it, tiny sleeper shouldn't hold you back too much |
