Steiger loader,with Biddles vid!
Well, have a couple of tractors sitting around & figured. What would happen If I flipped the interior around in the cab & maybe but a bucket on er?
So this is what I'm thinkin. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics689.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics690.jpg The plan is to make a new hood a little shorter & wider.move the exhaust,& do a bit-o-butchin on the cab. She's no gunna look perfect to a 1:1.Put a can of cat yellow on er. I think it will look just fine. My main goal here is to load dirt.Cheap! Just happen to have an old alum axle layin around & figured this baby will take the weight hangin out front. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics695.jpg Then butched in a 350 axle for the rear. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics691.jpg The trany is a PMD tranfercase bolted to a carson gear reduced motor. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics694.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics693.jpg Now the loader arms. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics696.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics698.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics700.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics702.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics706.jpg Thanks for lookin! Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Great idea Freddy.
That is clever thinking. |
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
I agree! Very clever! And it's already looking really good too. You don't waste much time, when designing and building on the fly, do you? Is it going to be hydraulic?
|
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Yes i have to agree, you are a very smooth and creative builder, makes it look so easy, well done!
But the green will go away right? :) |
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Very cool Freddy, I like the green, kind of Terex or Euclid looking. I would no like to be the fuel man for your rig though, not easy to get to. The aluminum wheels are a very nice touch, not as cool as spinners would be but still very cool.
|
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Freddy you never cease to amaze. I never thought about turning the Ford around and seeing a loader in it but now that I sit here staring at yours it makes me want to give it a go. Can't wait to see what you make out with for this machine.

Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Hey Freddy ,really like your wheel loader idea ,very cool, look foward to seeing more.:D
Kinda reminds me of the 90's Dresser payloader ,used to run one on a pipeyard a long time ago,LOL here's one http://www.machinerytrader.com/listi...?OHID=7230872& |
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
nah leave her greeeeeeeen terex loader !!!!!!!! :) just a sugestion
|
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Freddy, YOU DA' MAN...can't wait to see more. Great idea, keep up the great work.;):D:eek:

Re: low budget loader,I hope!
This will be sweet!!! Cant wait to see it in action!
|
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Are you sure you were not a equipment designer a few years back, because I am sure that is how the wheel loader came to be. Someone was laying in bed and said ( What IF I SPIN THE CAB AROUND ON THAT OLD TRACTOR AND PUT A BUCKET ON IT ) ! ! LOL
Great work agian Freddy... greg |
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Fred, you have got a very good idea here. Very innovative!!

Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Freddy, U da man!!! You gonna make me buy another tractor :D
|
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
**** fine work Freddy. Can't wait to see it finished.
|
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Love it already!
I vote for green, too =) |
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Holy crap you have to be kidding me! Leave it to you Freddy! Looks great cant wait to see more....Is that my green axle out of my tractor??
|
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Wow! Thanks Guys!
Was all big on paintin er yellow, but now I might leave it green. Cowboy, didn't see no aluminum axle in your tractor when I took it apart. Well managed to get the interior flipped around in the cab. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics713.jpg Then shortened up the frame.Made rear bumper & engine cover. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics720.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics725.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics729.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics727.jpg Now I can start stuffin the guts in er!:D Thanks for lookin! FGD |
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
The back of the cab looks wrong leaning out. Straight up would be better in my eyes. It does look great though. Very scale though.
|
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
What a change! That looks really cool! I would have never though a Steiger would have been a good base for a wheel loader. The rear hood look great, and I think the cab looks just fine with the posts leaning both ways. A lot of the older piece of a equipment had cabs a lot like that. Is it a Freddybuilt brand loader? Green paint would be a nice touch!
I like those rims and tires! I know where the rims came from, but the tires? |
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
I would like one of the first Steiger wheel loaders! I think it looks great and you should keep with the Steiger paint colors it would be cool to see what one would of looked like if they did make one out of there parts..
|
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
This is not just a conversion......it's a transformation of total proportion. I just ordered another Steiger too....:D
|
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Looks great FGD! Very creative and I'd say it could easily pass for something that this company would manufacture!
I may have missed it, but are you using screw drives for the bucket or something else? Surely not hydraulics if this is a "budget build"... |
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Green will look cool!
|
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Ingenius Freddy! :D
You're right, TTM doesn't have hyds on their site anymore. Scale Art makes a mini pump similar in size to Leimbach's and there's several skilled machinists here on the forum that could probably manufacture your valves & cyls for ya. ;) |
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Once again,Thanks Guys!
Yea Mazdaparts,I'm still toyin w/the idea of moving the back glass straight. Was going to cut about an 1/2" out of it to make it look more real, but turns out I had to stuff some of the runnin gear in it. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics732.jpg Acouple of people asked if it is going to be screwdrive. Here's what I decided to do. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics735.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics737.jpg Even managed to get two packs in er. One under the seat & one under the rear chassis. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics736.jpg Now the cylinders. Had to make up a different mount for rear of cylinders, due to there just a tad to long. But can change them at anytime later down the road. The 40mm are perfect, but can't get them in the bore I want.So once I'm set up right,I'll make a set that will be perfect for this baby. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics740.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics739.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics741.jpg The best part is! It's all gunna fit!:D:D Thanks for lookin! FGD |
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
WOOOW Freddie!!!!!! Its coming out nicely!!!! I'm gonna keep my eyes on this!!!! Great Work!!!!
|
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Nice work, as usual, Fred! So are you running everything on 7.2 volts, or 14.4 volts? Packs in series, parallel, or one for the drivetrain, and one for the pump?
The bucket reach looks good. One thing I was going to ask - are the pivots points and joints on these models bushed at all, or does it not matter? Aluminum will eventually wear out, I would guess. Just curious if anyone worries about that sort of thing. I never really saw any Stahl or Wedico machines up close. Do they run bushings? Those are some nice battery packs. 2/3A cells, right? Did you build them yourself, in that configuration? I can think of a couple uses for a pack that size. Where did you find them? |
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Looks great Fred! The price of these things sure adds up fast, don't it?
|
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Fantastic!
Not sure I would classify that hydraulic as low budget, though ;) I _would_ class this build as very awesome, though :) Cheers Jens |
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Yep you are killing it old boy!! they look perfect to me no need to change them I would be tickled the way it is.. Any updates on the other project..

Re: low budget loader,I hope!

Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Freddy - I think you will want to make the rear bumper bigger for more weight balance - and the aluminum axel for the bucket end is ideal - great choice.

Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Espeefan, the batteries are tied together & everything runs off of them at 7.2v.
Thanks a ton Guys! Chris, the back bumper is filled with lead. plus there's lead stuck inside everywhere I could hide it. This baby is gettin real close to a vid!:D:D http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics751.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics750.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics754.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics748.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics747.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics745.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics752.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics757.jpg Loadin dirt in days! Make sure this baby works ok,then the bucket.A nice big material bucket. Thanks for lookin! FGD |

Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Once again pops, blowin' it out of the water. Very nice. If you go green are you gonna do a Deere color scheme?
|
Re: low budget loader,I hope!
Thanks Guys!
Nate I'm not sure of the color yet. Here's the first test vid!:D After this I git too pull it all apart & fix the flippin trany! Had to be a wise guy & push it to the max on carpet. But it sure do have more than enough motor,& the speed is perfect. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...uckPics758.jpg Can't wait to jump in the dirt with this baby. Thanks for lookin! FGD |
