Hello,

I decided on my first build. This past summer we rented this tracked closed circuit portable horizontal shaft impact crushing plant. I ran it for about 400 hours, It was fed with a 400 Komustu. Its pretty cool rig, you have a remote with you in the hoe that you can turn all on, and track it where ever you want with the remote. It was taking 24" by 24" pieces of concrete and recycle it til it would pass the 1-1/4" screen. Pretty small, compared to the other big plant we use, but still would produce 300 ton an hour.

So there it is. I'm taking the plunge. All you track fabricators, go ahead and chime in, and help me get started. The conveyors, Impactor, and feeder I think I got a pretty good handle on how to go about building and making functional, but I need some help designing the tracks and drive components.

I assume your going to build in 1:14 scale. This will be a cool build. i will be watching this.

Is the impact crusher better/more efficient than a jaw crusher?

What sort of material do you plan to put through it to demo the model?

RCLogger's (Greg) tracks are rather simple to manufacture & quite effective function. (scroll to the bottom & next page)

We ran 2 Lippmann HSI's on the last portable plant I worked, in a closed circuit, being fed by ElJay screen decks. Along with a Lippmann 30x42 jaw. I do not miss having to hand dig one clean after a curtain liner drops free, and grenades the internals.

We could avg. right at 280 TPH the way we were set up here.

Should be a cool project. I know a couple have already been done before yours. I'll have to do some bloodhound work, and track some vids down for you. If you need any blueprints or schematics, shout out, I still have some contacts I could call in for you.

Matt,

Cool project. You should enjoy building this machine. I am making chain driven tracks for my cable hoe and it is quite a learning experience. The tracks and pads are copied from Greg (RCLogger) thanks Greg.:) Everything you need to make is fairly simple though...spacers, shafts, idlers. There are lots of options for chains, sprockets & pre-made conveyer belts too.

It works better for recycling concrete. It busts the material away from the rebar.

Looks like a unique project, guess you don´t need a RC for that, just start the engine and let it run.

The tracks will be RC, also the speed of the feed, belts on/off, and the speed of the impacter, will all be controlled by RC, just like the real one.

A little more info on the chain please. Whats the K-1 tab? Mcmaster or MSC got this stuff? Part #'s.

What do we use for drive motors? 540's separate speed controls? Will the new receivers accept more than 1 speed control? I'm going to need at least 9 separate motors and controls for this project.

Alot of things have change since 1988 when I last started RC cars. My first Speed control was a Novak T-4 back in 90'. I'm not up on whats available now.

I'm looking forward to this build. You wont need too many speed controls you may get away with just 12 or 24v gearmotors from a power supply or one 110v motor through gear reductions or chain and sprockets or cog belts. Look over ebay. I spend hours scrounging for parts that may work for projects. Here's a video I came across on youtube of a mobile plant that crushes plaster. This guy even has a hammer for his excavator. I think LilGiants has a crusher he uses in his basement PIT.

It's just a vertical dirt lump crusher for hard clay lumps. I'd like to have a jaw crusher for busting actual rock.

Matt, after re-reading my post it almost sounds like I am saying your build will be easy. But, what I meant was dealing with the chain setups won't be to bad... The whole build is actually a large complex project that should keep you very busy.:)

I see Mc Master Carr has all the belting, lacing, roller chain, sprockets, and K-1 links.

This dual esc is good for track drives. The 'mix' can be turned off so the esc's can be used individually. This dual esc is quite compact & robust.

This battle switch is a good on/off relay by remote.

I thinking of building 1/8 scale. That way I can fit this and an inverter in the engine compartment. No battery's!

1/8 scale should make it an interesting build

1/8 scale opens up a lot of possibility's down the road for other machines. Using the HF small gen as the power plant, would be nice not having the mess with battery's. It would also open up other options, for electrical servo mounted actuators, instead of Hyd systems. Run times would be as long as you want, or at least til the fuel truck shows up.:D

This would be pushing the limits of my lathe and mill on a few parts, But I think it is do able.

Still looking at other options with the smaller 1:14 scale. Til I start making chips, It will still be up in the air. Getting a 350 lb 10 foot long machine in and out of the shop, poses for some defiant problems.

I want to build some sort of crushing plant for sure. Right now still going over different scenarios. I might just do a stationary plant, and concentrate on RC/ing a Loader or a hoe, for feeding it. That way I could do the 1:14 scale, and use a off site electricity to power an entire plant, and run indoors if needed, like for a show or something. I'm sure if I did something like that, I wouldn't have a problem finding someone here that wouldn't mind feeding it with there machines.:D

Just like anything I've done before, I run through all scenarios, head off in 10 different directions, till reality sets in, and figure the real game plan the day I start cutting metal.

Could always do 1/8th scale with tracks and RC movement and just have a 110VAC pigtail it drags around like the large mine shovels do.

I like your idea. I know where you're coming from with a 10' long 350# machine to move:eek:. I have you beat 13' long 300+#:D
I think electric would be the best. then you could run indoors. Dust maybe a problem though:o may need a water mist to tame it and we could feed that plant with our machine.:cool:

You could always use car batteries, marine batteries that would last longer than a tank gas & you wouldn't have the NOISE! :)

I hope you decide on a jaw crusher, then you could make two while you're at it. ;) :D
