tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
Lynn wanted an M25 Dragon Wagon so he traded me some parts I wanted and in return I am going to build him the truck and trailer combo. The M25 consists of a truck either an M26 or M26A1 and a trailer either an M15 or M15A1. Lynn has chosen the M26A1 truck and the M15 trailer. The truck will be as scale as possible so we are going to use chain drive rear axles like the real one has. They used the Timken chain drive axles because at the time no conventional axle could support the weight this truck was going to be hauling.
Here are some pics of what we will be building and what I have put together so far. The real truck and trailer. http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps4b37b5ca.jpg http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps78526ee2.jpg http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps71a2b0ef.jpg And what we have so far. http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps4290e833.jpg http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...psa20b6f89.jpg http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps38d9e064.jpg Thanks for looking. Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon
I can tell that this is going to be a GREAT build! I have slowly been collecting parts (and trying to work out the mechanical bugs) for a similar build, that I have not started yet. Silvio and I even had some discussions about him building the armored cab version for anyone else who'd like to build one as well. The best tires I have been able to find are from Lego, but yours look MUCH better - where did you get them? One of the biggest hurdles I see is how to get matching gear ratios if the front axle is powered, and the rear set of axles are driven by chain from a small set of sprockets. The best thing I could think of was dummy-ing up the front axle so that it wasn't actually powered - which kind of defeats the whole 6x6 idea.

fhhhstix:
D*mn those tires look great, who makes them, and what rims are you using? You might wanna go search the RCU forum, a few guys over there have given the build a shot, but used the armored cab, not the 'behind-the-lines' one. WhiteWolf, looking to make a tank-hauler for his tanks... (oh-so-many... 8 tracked chassis? *whine*) |
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon
Tires and aluminum wheels are from RC4WD. 1.9" DUKW tires and 1.9" Militant wheels. Using Hummer wheels for all of the rest of the wheels. M26 will be all wheel drive.
Had thought about the armored version but I wanted something different. |
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon
This is a neat project Lynn and coming along nicely:cool:, but no updates in 2 days:eek:, Its so hard to find good help these days:rolleyes::p:D.
|
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon
Give Travis a break:rolleyes: He has more projects going than even me:eek::eek:
|
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon
yeah I am gonna have t get off my lay rear and get going on mine but this might give me ideas on what to correct on mine.

Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon
OK fellas this one will take some time as everything will have to be custom made. So far the only thing I have not had to modify is the front axle but hay we aren't done yet. Well here are a few updates.
First are the rear axles which I used my new lathe to make and isn't that irony I am making parts for one of our own in house machinist. I just hope I can meet his standards or at least enough he will be happy.:D http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps6b7a6902.jpg Next is the transmission, I had to add a 1:2 gearbox to the R2 to make up for the gear reduction in the chain drive. I still have some work to do on the cover to get it to fit better and sand down the paint on the rear gear box plate. http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...pscf061223.jpg http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...psef0195d9.jpg I have also gotten a little more body work done. http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps30e5b637.jpg http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps54f8fe31.jpg Thanks for looking. Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon
Looks pretty good!! What size sprockets are you going to use for the chain drive?
|
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon
I purchased some chain and sprockets from Robot Marketplace. Not sure if it will hold up or not. If not we have a plan 'B' to try. Looking good there Travis!!

Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon
Well here is a small update. I have the sprockets mounted to the rims. I hope to get the axle reworked tomorrow and see if this is going to work.

Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon
Here is another update and it is now drivable.:D

I am surprised the cab even stayed on in the video since it is just sitting on the chassis. http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps224d520d.jpg Thanks for looking. Travis |
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
Very cool!! Now i see what kind of chain it has. For some reason i was picturing a bigger chain..
|
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
Thanks now for some details and body work then I can start on the trailer.
Travis |
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
I like the chain drive.;):) Great video, and this is way cool.:cool::cool: The trailer should be interesting to see it come together.:eek::eek: I am tuned in...

Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
IT MOVES:eek::eek: Looks GREAT!! Can't wait to see it in person:D
|
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
It's coming along nicely Travis, the video looks good, I can't wait to see the soft top on it!
|
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
That's AWESOME I need to look through my stuff as I believe I have some of those gears and chain already.

Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
Looking good Travis.

Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
Hi, could you add some more pictures and information on your rear axle setup? I'am planning on building something similar and always looking for inspiration. Great project!

He he... evil minds think alike:
http://www.modellspiegel.com/m25-m26-pacific/ Hopefully a project for this winter. :bounce: Can't wait to see yours Lynn! Jeff |
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
I knew better than click on a link from you (Jeff):eek: Someone actually makes the body for the armored version :jaw: Wish I would have seen this earlier :mad: Would have saved lots of time!! Only thing wrong with the kit is the lack of chain drive for the rear axles on the tractor. Looks like there might be something missing from the trailer also. I will let you find it!!!
Sorry but you will have to ask Travis to post any pics of the drive line as he has the model. |
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
Oh, just go ahead and tell me because I'll never figure it out PLUS... I do believe these are just prototype pictures.
I won't be going for a 100% accurate vehicle, just one that works. My wallet won't allow that to happen. :D Jeff |
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
had a chance to see this truck in oerson down at Travis' the other day - it is huge! the books that Lynn rounded up for reference were awesome as well.
BTW the trailer is coming along nicely as well. |
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
I guess no one looks at the old threads anymore :cop::cop:

Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
Is that the scale art? looks good so far!
|
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
Nope, it is the Carson with all electric system. Running it on 7.4V makes it just about the right speeds for me. Not too fast and not too slow. Just need to add some decals now!!
|
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
A curve? Looks like a whole different game! Awesome model, Lynn, and great job Travis. Looking forward to seeing this at Indy.

Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
All electric? So no hydraulic at all? I think I've seen this one on the site uses all screw drive actuators. That's pretty cool but is the lifting power the same? I'm saving up for My wheel loader. It's slowly getting there
|
Re: tc1cat's M25 Dragon Wagon (Now drivable)
Thanks, guys. Travis did a great job assembling and painting the loader for me. The Carson was designed for all electric. They came out with the hydraulics as an option after the fact. I want an excavator in the worst way but just can't get past the hydraulics with all of the electrics in such a small space. 1 of these days, I will break down and get an excavator and just have to bite the bullet of the hydraulics. Or I will get the lead out of my butt, and make an excavator but it will not be yellow, orange, or green. I think a few guys on the forum know what I want but it would be a LONG build as I don't think that I can buy very much out of ready made parts for it. The tracks scale out to be 3" wide :eek:
