Green Globe First Build

Here is my first build. The plan is to go basic at first and build on it from there as I have time.

The Globe arrived this past April. And the fun began.:D

Muffin pan.......Cool idea!

Re: Green Globe First Build

I like the muffin pan idea too. I bought a fishing box because it has a lid, and I need that. It saved me more than once  Keep the pics coming, always like to see new builds.

Re: Green Globe First Build

I got the muffin pan idea from some of the guys here on the forum. It is really handy. It would be good if there was a lid that would contain the fasteners in case of a spill.

Moving along.

The rear axles.

http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...psi4gmazrq.jpg

Wheel assembly. The small magnetic tray worked great.
http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...ps31y6vkre.jpg

The front suspension.

http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...psolwxh1dp.jpg
http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...pss10dau6j.jpg

And the gearbox
http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...psjymbzxmn.jpg

I went with a 55 Turn Motor. I have ordered a 6T pinion gear. In the meantime I will use the stock pinion gear.
http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...psxkgmzka7.jpg
http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...pse1gscyfd.jpg

Adding the stock fuel tanks.
http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...pship5c2qj.jpg

Next step is paint. What color should I make it? I trolled through many photos online and used this great looking KW for my color inspiration.

More photos later, with paint! :bounce:

Wow that is a beautiful truck. I don't think my first build will look like that! I do plan on making changes over time to the basic build. I need to figure out the best way to add stripe and graphics. Thanks 1strodeo for sharing!

Saran wrap is good for a lid it will at least keep it all in the pan, mixed up but in the pan.

I like that long green K100. A bit of a different shade that what is normally used. Is that the color you are looking at using? Would make your truck different and stand out. The color of your magnet tray is a cool shade too.

The color closer to the magnetic tray. I chose what was available at the local hobby store.

Thanks Diesel Demond. I was trying to go with a color you don't see much of. Just to be a bit different.

Thanks Animal. I have been inspired as well by the builds I see on here. I am excited to get it finished for Indy 2015!

janderson, I like elements of each one of the trucks. I really like the paint scheme of the second truck but also like the simplicity of the first one. I will probably take ideas from many sources.

Looks good, nice pictures. I like the first one but that's probably as much about the stretch as it is the color. You have a good idea about mixing it up a bit!

Re: Green Globe First Build

I like very much the paint colour

The Wurst 07-16-2015 12:49 PM

Re: Green Globe First Build

Primer then paint. I did all the spraying with aresol cans. I have read online that for a great paint job to use an airbrush. Anyone have experience on that topic?

http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...pspgovikty.jpg
http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...pssflko2t2.jpg
http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...pszw3bvdmx.jpg

While the paint dried I worked on getting the chassis powered and controller configured. It was a success. Ran good. Still a little too fast though.
http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5jn9c1nq.jpg

Time for the fifth wheel and mudflaps.
http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...psjgk4ht5i.jpg
http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...psvq253mtc.jpg

I had to get an idea how the new painted cab would look on the chassis. I am liking it. Not too fancy but I still am liking it. There is plenty of opportunity for customizing!:D
http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...pscsvlagwr.jpg
http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/...pslighfekx.jpg

And that is where I am up to now. I did get the 6T pinion gear in the mail yesterday along with an extra battery.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks Toniolillo. I'll have to think about adding stripes.

Re: Green Globe First Build

I like that color man!

If you want an simple alternative to adding stripes, mask the truck at the seam line above the door and paint the roof black. Go a bit further and mask the bottom at the seam line below the door, wrap the front and paint that black too. Will be just enough to set it off for a custom look without complicated striping. (Just a suggestion)

Don't forget to gloss coat the whole thing before you assemble the body.

Do you plan on putting a future stretch in it?

Thanks for the suggestion Up9018. I hadn't thought of that. I will consider for sure.
Gloss coat.... hmmmm..... that is a good idea. I wasn't going to but I probably should.
Yep there is a stretch planned in the future. I have read that the King Hauler frame will work nicely to make the stretch.

Looking good that green pops, you are already past it but for next time the bump and hole on roof, fill it. Most radios are now 2.4hhz and have short or no antenna's. yours looks to be short. I always fill my antenna holes in before painting with bondo or plastic model putty.

Just keep that in mind on your next build or if you ever decide to repaint this one for some reason.

example of one of my builds and filling it in.

I am fond of the green myself.

As for covering the hole in the top I painted a snap cap white and put it on to look like a GPS receiver.

Hey Travis. That looks like that may be the same color green as the Green Globe!!
That is a great idea with the GPS receiver. I may try that for mine. What is a snap cap?

The king hauler frame makes the perfect length frame for a globe liner with that custom large car working truck look. I have one n I love the length.

That is exactly the look I am hoping for. Now I just need to find me a set of King frame channels.

For now I was thinking of trying to locate a stock pair of KH rails already drilled and ready to bolt up. I haven't asked yet on the forum but I would think there would be some around since a lot of guys upgrade to a stretched KH frame.
