Now that is cool. Don't see many buses for some reason. Great detail your putting into it. Were you able to find some specifications or working from photos? Will be following closely.

Yes, thank god for the internet today. Makes research much easier. I spent months googling, binging and duckduckgoing searching for info on my Mack B model. Found an old factory data sheet that listed basic dimensions of truck and after that was mostly scaling from photos. Fortunately a lot of parts like lights and suspension components are still manufactured and used today and you can often find dimensions on manufacturer's or resellers web sites.

Wow, those interior pieces are already looking amazing! Awesome job on the design work, definately keeping your robot busy this winter
Very cool project idea, have you decided what livery you're going to paint it? Great to see somebody tackle a bus project, they're really rare. I can't wait to see where this project goes! |

The 1970's paint scheme looked pretty cool.

Iconic exterior styling for sure. The detailed interior of your model is a great feature and nice to see included.

Re: 1/10 GMC PD-4501 Greyhound Scenicruiser Bus Build-3d printed
Nearly four feet long? That's a beast!!! I thought a city bus i'm gathering parts for was fairly big at 28 inches long. You're going to have room to hide ALL the scale toys in that rig...
Which 1/10 axles is this going to ride on? I like that you've gone into production enough with this, that there's just a bucket of seats sitting on the bench. That Red, White & Blue looks killer! |

i have done pretty much all the seats, 19 benches w/ 2 seats and 1 long bench at the rear... so far i have used about 5 spools of PLA filament lol... right now im building the side walls, my plan is to have the walls and roof connected except the front section so i can just lower it in place. |

Looking good. Is there going to be anything to cover up all those screw heads?

Re: 1/10 GMC PD-4501 Greyhound Scenicruiser Bus Build-3d printed
That's really shaping up beautifully!
I think this is a facinating build. I wasn't around when those bus were in service, only really seen them used in movies to deliver someone to a rural place. You inspired me to learn some more about these, and thought this goes into some good details https://www.curbsideclassic.com/curb...yhound-and-gm/ |
Re: 1/10 GMC PD-4501 Greyhound Scenicruiser Bus Build-3d printed
Interesting frizzen. I never knew those early versions actually had two engines in them. I can just imagine what a nightmare the control linkage was.

I'm glad you guys found that article interesting too. I was suprised by how much bus content they have over there. Bunch of other brands too, and some weird stuff

Re: 1/10 GMC PD-4501 Greyhound Scenicruiser Bus Build-3d printed
Looking great. The rear window/roof contour is my fav part.
Looks like upper and lower windshields as well as the back window will be curved in one or more directions. What's the plan to build those? |

Re: 1/10 GMC PD-4501 Greyhound Scenicruiser Bus Build-3d printed
Your bus project is really starting to come together nicely, you and your printer have been busy. (Any idea how many print hours you have in it?)
With the exception of the rear window it looks like all of the curves in the glass will just be simple curves. Heat forming canopies/windshields is not that complicated, there's lots of videos on DIY vacuum forming. And you really don't need much more than a heat gun, a shop-vac, and some wood scraps. The wood's to make the vacuum box. You've already got the 3D model, it won't take too much additional work to model the plugs that you'll need to make the curved glass parts. Of course you'll need to sand/fill the layer lines on the plugs - but I'm sure you are familiar with that process by now. SuperfastMatt recently did a video about how not to make a windshield for his Bonneville streamliner, in fact he showed how not to do it several times. But, he also needs something a little more optically clear than you need for an RC bus. Don |

Re: 1/10 GMC PD-4501 Greyhound Scenicruiser Bus Build-3d printed
You did an amazing job with this! Can wait to see it all done. Always wanted a bus but so much work involved.
Ever think of a 'Gyro" controling 4 servo's (4 corners) I saw this done on a bus and it will give you that bus dip and sway when stopping/driving Etc... Adds alot of realism. Not sure if it would work with your application? Very Nice work. Can't wait to see it when done. Alot of work!! |
Re: 1/10 GMC PD-4501 Greyhound Scenicruiser Bus Build-3d printed
That's looking great! I really love how well all the curved parts came out
Tamiya makes a great point, something like the 'Superscale 2020' suspension controller would look great adding more dynamic motion to driving that beast. |
