WOW! That looks great!

How are you going to operate it? Individual motors or clutches?

Really a great beginning! The company I work for was a Bucyrus-Erie dealer from 1917 until it stopped making the smaller stuff. 88-B was the largest unit we sold, but had a bunch of them in KY and IN, mostly as draglines in the coal fields. Brings back a lot of memories. Cable shovels are cool and you are doing a fine job building this one. Keep up the good work!

Kerst

I finally decided for individual motors. Not as realistic, but I thought it would be easier to operate.

The scale is just a bit over 1/14,5 (I use a ratio of 7 centimeter for 1 meter)

Re: Bucyrus 88-B shovel

http://www.limaronproject.com/index.htmlNice job Papy. I expect it's beginning to weigh a bit heavy by now. I'm really glad to see somebody else engineering a cable shovel. I liked the 88-B although I never ever saw one in the UK. Modelman's Marion is a brilliant little model. I have been building a Marion/Lima hybrid for the las 5 years or so. It's a little larger scale at 1/8 full size. I'll try and post some pics. Keep us posted.

Very impressive! I don't know much about these shovels, but it looks like you are well on your way to having a beautiful scale replica.

That's quite impressive Papy. Where did you get the turntable gear from?

Papy 01-01-2012 06:27 PM

Re: Bucyrus 88-B shovel

I could not find one at a reasonnable price, so I made it by myself....long process, but nothing really complicated....

Re: Bucyrus 88-B shovel

Those tracks are beautiful! I'm in the design stages of a 22B and I'm not looking forward to making the pads and they are waaayy less complex than yours. Thanks for the pictures!

Hi Papy, Good idea building a truck alongside. You really will have something to play with and make everybody, including me, very jealous when finished. Is the truck a Euc. It looks very business like.

Wow! Your tracks and drive wheels look like jewelry.

VERY nice work.
