I got this in a trade from a member here . I've been dieing to do somthing to it :o but could not bring myself to till I finally got somewhere with my end of the deal :o:o Well the opertunity presented it self today  the ol brain had a lock up and fuzzed up cuttin A/C's :o ( cut the straps right off :o:mad: ) Well rather then cut it off and toss it , some quick calculations and project petico got some new A/C's :D:D:o:o . Of course I had to put the S&P stacks on it too :o:o:o:D:D:D . Like most the wedico builds , It'll be a long drawn out project :o:o:rolleyes: it needs rear axles , trans and motor real emblems .Everything else will be made by you know :p:p

At first I was trying to figure out what a Petico was, but then I saw the pictures. What do you mean, like most Wedico builds, it will be long and drawn out? :D It doesn't have to be! You've got the tools and skills to put it together quickly. If only I had the same tools.

Anyway, it's looking pretty cool. Is that a stock Wedico rim with the super single on it, or one of your own making? Just curious if you'd be getting into the Wedico rim making, like the Tamiyas?

We can use a crap hauler around here
Can't wait to see her all done

ihbuilder 08-19-2011 07:28 AM

Re: Project : Petico

mike could be :rolleyes::p

nate it's just not on the top priority + if your the 1 getting rics last rust axles I'll be waiting awhile . thats 1 of my rejects with a low pro sitting in front for the pic and to see how it looks . I need the rear axles to design the rear suspension :D that'll take some time :(

"We can use a crap hauler around here"
yea I know just the name to put on the tank :p

Steve, I am still in the money saving mode, so I won't be able to buy the Rust axles from Ric just yet. Need to sell some things first, or save up some money. Ric can always get more axles in.

I only asked about the rims because I could maybe use some better front driven rims for my own truck. If you have a 6x6 and run the wide super single in the front, the scrub radius is horrible, and the tires hit the front bumper and inner parts of the fender, once you lower the truck, or put a big texas square bumper on the front, without lowering. A rim with more offset might help cure that, as long as the tire doesn't start rubbing the springs then.

Re: Project : Petico

That will be something neat and different. You will be the #1 man in the #2 bitness! Will it really hold water and pump?

Nate as of now everything I try to save goes to getting more tooling :( I may make my own  I need 3d cad for some other things . what is the dimmemtion difference between the std steer axle and the driven ? maybe the wedico wheels aren't scaled right  It's something I'm doing here and there when I get fustrated with the other stuff . just looked at Claus' they look like the offset is wrong

Re: Project : Petico (Pepe Le Pew )

Well, the offset isn't bad. It might not be perfect, but the bigger problem is the powered front axle has hubs that stick way, way out. Almost like they need to run wheel wideners to get the wheel away from the chassis. So when the tires turn, they swing in an arc, more then turn at the knuckle. It's just one of those things that is annoying. For the money you pay, these should be perfect models. The standard non-driven axle is loads better. It's not as much of a problem. There the knuckles and scrub radius are almost right. It's the u-joints of the driven axle that must push the wheels so far out. Can't really make those to scale.

dang mike you know everything I'm using  you must know a little about the sucky bizness :p:p:p:p

nate , I'd have to get 1 to see i'd hate too since I have no plan to use 1 yea the price is high for them . I'm not all that keen on the plastic stuff on them  the head lights are way to big  but to get a true scale modle in metal is going to be pricy

staring at this thing , an Idea to be different with a wedico pete popped into my head and I just had to see how it would look :o It's a little rough but just a mock up so I know how I want to proceed . I think I'm liking the 379xth look ( I think ) Now new fenders or needed and diffinately a new grill :D also a new scale front axle to get the hight right  thats not going to happen anytime soon :o as I got enough on my plate :o
when I make the actual hood it'll be in 3 pieces panel glued and rivited ( not p rivets either:rolleyes:) .

Aha, excellent. New and different. Another name company name suggestion, "R.C. Crapper"

You guys do realise that the modern flush toilet was actually revolutionised by a John Crapper? Hence where the phrase comes from.

Wow Steve, nobody but you would attempt body work on a metal cab wedico! And I always wondered to myself if anyone had ever attempted converting the wedico 359 to a 379. This may be a world premiere! If you're making this into a long nose pete, are you still gonna make it a poop truck?? New fenders, long hood, lower axle... Sounds like a large car to me!

Re: Project : Petico (Pepe Le Pew )

yea , still a pumper but not sure on keeping the wedi chassis  I was toying with doing this before I even got a hold of a wedi it's nothing new to me I remade a lot of old IH rusted out body pannels . I'm not sure I'll be the only 1 but I'm only doing this once . I thought about making a die , but for just this 1 , I'm going with the hammer and sand bag route . I might make a mini english wheel though

Hey Steve, have you considered cutting the mold & die via cnc, and using a hydraulic press to crunch out the pieces? My neighbor's make there mold's out of hardwood for 1 time use, or aluminum for multi use. Market for the corn binder's?

Neil I don't think to many people restore the old bubble nose fleetstars I did enough of them  1 of them is 3 cabs in 1 + new hammered back corners the 1st 1 I ran I put 3 549 gassers in then converted it over to diesel with a 466B then rebuilt that motor before the frame rotted through at the tandems its now a single axle . still has the best cab in the fleet next to my 2070A . the 3 cabs in 1 has yet to get back together My dad is hoping to put it on a s1900 frame before he passes to put my 1st back together , to complete the old fleet . If he doesn't I will in my spare time
