Best build ever! I always drool over this one, at Scale 4x4, and have been watching it closely on that forum! Nice to see you bring it over here to share. You have a ton of talent and patience!

Re: 5 ton brass/copper build

Wow, nice work! Do you use a torch, soldering iron or resistance soldering iron? How do you decide whether to use brass or copper? Or, put another way, why use copper at all - is it better for shaping for curves?

Richard

I use both a torch and a stainglass soldering iron with silversolder and some type of brazing solder not sure the brand but I get it at tractor supply.

I use the copper in areas where where I have compound curves.

http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...%20ton/007.jpg

it will be sitting a little higher as well.

Outstanding build!
Starting from scratch and realizing that level of details in brass (+copper) is simply amazing for almost "newbies" like me (and probably for more experimented builder also ;))
Can't wait to see next steps

Yeah, that looks like you have about 5 tons of brass and copper into it! Just beautiful fabrication throughout. Dan

Oh my God, that thing is incredible!! I know you have heard this already, but wow, you have some serious skill and clearly a shed load of time and most importantly - patience. It's really amazing to see what can be done with some brass, copper and solder if you have the skill set and imagination.
Well done and keep up the great work!

Re: 5 ton brass/copper build

Nice job on the metal forming! You are quite the tin knocker!
By the looks of the front tires, you won't need to add no weight to this baby for traction.
Can't wait to see her done!

Re: 5 ton brass/copper build

thanks for all the encouraging words! you correct Freddy I have no need for additional weight on this thing but I do think Im going to be in need of some beadlocks..

Managed a little time this morning.
Started on the inner fender(driver side) .I had been over thinking this entire process,I couldnt wrap my head around how to make the louvers so I just went into the basement and started looking through my punches and chisles but none of them looked like what I needed then I came across a wood chisle and it looked perfect. I triyed to make it from all brass but it was to hard to get a smooth cut. So I cut the louvers into copper and then installed it into the brass

Simply stunning work. The details you've added just enhance everything. This is one of those models that look good anyway it's finished, painted or simply cleaned up and raw. My hats off to you sir!

yea the wheight on this thing is crazy, but I think it will add to the realism once its driving...But the down side is I have to get some beadlocks so the tires stay on the rims.

Re: 5 ton brass/copper build

Wow! The louvered underside/inner fender pieces look incredible. It looks like you have spared no detail on this build. The more you add, the better it gets! I don't know what my problems is. Ha! I've been building a truck for 4 years and haven't much to show for it, and it's mostly a bolt together affair! You've done way more in 2 years then I have, and it's almost all from scratch.
