L Model MACK Wrecker

Here is one of my new projects an L Model MACK wrecker. I started with a Smith Miller truck and I am adding wedico axles and a home made wrecker body. Here is what I have so far.

Thanks guys now I have to decide whether I want to put in a multiple speed trans or just use a gear motor and have one speed.

Re: L Model MACK Wrecker

Single speed would sure make it easier so you don't have to hack the metal body.

Re: L Model MACK Wrecker

Coming together quickly, WOW! You were just talking about it last weekend and now it's halfway completed.:D

Looks like the cab blasted up nicely to give you a fresh surface to work with, and I like the way you kept the wrecker bed proper for its time period with the rounded trim.

Looking forward to more on this build,
-Alex

Re: L Model MACK Wrecker

Thanks guys so far this has been a fun little build and I plan to keep it simple with an A frame and a tow cable. Paul just wait and see what I plan to do with my big wrecker build that will be my next project. I just have to finish this one and the T800 first.

I talked to my advisor and decided to lower the cab and I think it looks a lot better. Let me know what you think.

Re: L Model MACK Wrecker

Travy... I like the taller cab then older trucks sat kind of tall in the seat.. It makes the sides look too tall now..Just My .02

Re: L Model MACK Wrecker

Sweet old school build. I can't make up my mind which way is better. I like the fenders lower, but the cab looks better higher. I'm sure either way will end up great. You may disagree but I think making it look rusty, faded and worn as a paint job would be cool. Like it's been used/abused forever and a day.

Re: L Model MACK Wrecker

I am going to lower the sides on the bed but I like the botom being the same hight as the cab.

ihbuilder 09-02-2010 10:15 PM

Re: L Model MACK Wrecker

Travis If you want scale the cab actually should be lower (just looked through my mack history book ) . but I think your fine just bring the top of the body down to at least the cab hight . my $0.04 :p

Re: L Model MACK Wrecker

If you lowered the bed the same amount as the cab, it would look much better in my opinion. Looks like the start of another GREAT build!!

Re: L Model MACK Wrecker

Here are some updated pics of the truck I lowered the top of the bed and I am now happy with how it looks. Now to build the A frame boom and some paint.

Re: L Model MACK Wrecker

Looks much better, now that you've lowered it! I was going to suggest that early on, when I first posted, but I didn't think the look was bad then either. A lot of those old school Macks rode pretty high. I think it looks either way!
