SW K100
I am epically slow builder. This project mostly sits in boxes, rather than on the workbench.
Nothing special about the chassis. Not sure I like the 4:1 so it will probably go in favor of pinion reduction. http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...IMG_1066-1.jpg First order of business was to get headlights. My K100 is later model, lets say 1992. http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...d/P1010189.jpg http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...d/P1010187.jpg http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...d/P1010685.jpg Next was the axle and lower cab "wheelwell" http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...d/P1010191.jpg I need some more clearance on the wheel so may have re-bend the spring a bit more or add spacer. Filling the rear panel: http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...d/P1010684.jpg http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...d/P1010693.jpg I think I may redo the rear cutout. One problem is I think its a little low. And second I bought a set of S&P sweet pipes that are so big they won't fit/hide under the short side skirts. The entire bottom edge may have to move up 1/4" or so. Not sure how I'm going to solve that one. Starting work on the side: http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...d/P1010691.jpg Not much progress for the two years I've had it. |
Re: SW K100

Re: SW K100
That looks good to me! I like seeing more and more of these Globeliners converted to KWs. I'd say you're no slower of a builder then I am. I've been working on the same truck for way to long. Is it five years now? Ugh. But not steady. That's my excuse.

Re: SW K100
Thank for the nice comments.
I decided I don't like the tamiya floor: http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...d/P1010695.jpg Still have to cut room for the transmission and no idea where I'm going to put the battery. Snug fit in the cab: http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...d/P1010701.jpg Then while watching GB lose I cut out the driver's door: http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...d/P1010698.jpg http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...d/P1010700.jpg |
Re: SW K100
Looking good there, I like the new floor and you did a great job cutting the door out. How do you plan on hinging the door?

Re: SW K100
Hinges are a pain in the a&@, I made a set using 1/16 brass rod and 5/64 tube on mine, I just couldn't figure out an access problem for my pin. So after a suggestion by ihbuilder, I ended ip with 2 small 3/4 inch brass hinges from the hardware store stacked, take a look at my pete thread or ihbuilders to see if that would work for you.
Love the way the truck is looking Tim |
Re: SW K100
Man, you guys who can cut with thread. I can't even get it started. It just breaks. This is looking really good! I'm looking forward to seeing what's next. Very nice work so far.

Re: SW K100
Is a particular kind or gauge of thread recommended by anyone?

Re: SW K100
Hi you may want to look at those wooden cigar boxes thay have small brass hinges for the lids ive used them before to great effect . Thay are about the right size but you may need about 6 or 8 boxes to get enough to do both doors . I hope this helps great looking rig

Re: SW K100
Father's Day allowed the first hours on this project in months. Since there aren't many of these out there I made its home:
http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...d/P1010998.jpg Then got to work on the door hinge. I went with the smallest butt hinge I could find at dollhouse supply. There are four of them but I removed the stays to accept a single pin to make them as piano like as possible. http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...d/P1010999.jpg Tried to get a shot of how proud the hinge sits of the face: http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...d/P1020001.jpg The hinges are a pain and I only plan to do the driver's side. To get the small hinges to sit right I had to thin the door down about halfway to 0.035". Time and a chisel were my friends. |
Re: SW K100
Looks great so far!! Looks like the hinges turned out good! Love the grill!!
|
Re: SW K100
Great!
Grill is handmade or bought? If you bought it to let me know where...? Sorry for my english, it's really bad. thanks |
Re: SW K100
Really like this project :-) can't wait for more
|
Re: SW K100
I would also like to know where you got the KW-frontgrill from. I will probably start a globeliner-project this winter, so I already start looking for parts. Would be a great help to know if it´s handmade or bought!
Thanks in advance, Wolfgang |
