Gotta start somewhere Globe liner and 3 axil Trailer

Well, I guess its time to get started on something.
I plan to build this Globe Liner and the 3 Axis Trailer as my first RC semi truck build. Not planning any modifications yet!! I want to do a complete build per the instructions so I have something to run ---- Then start on custom builds. I have already been using this fourm to look up details and guidance regarding Servo's and Bearings. Very helpfull. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go.. I do love seeing all your builds and your helpfull comments.
couple of pictures of the boxes and the start.....
lets see if I can get this picture thing right.

nice looking kit
I never understood why USA trucks had such a long wheel base, where as European trucks seem short by comparison and can carry the same weight

Because the road system in Europe and Asia are much smaller and tighter in comparison to the U.S n Canadian roadways. The reason for the longer wheelbase on American trucks is 1. The longer the wheelbase the smoother the ride 2. Because it looks bad *** and we can get away with them on our roadways. That's the reason most euro trucks are cabover because our long strait hoods don't do so well in there tiny little villages and towns. I have cousins in tge u.k. and when they came to New Jersey they were amazed by my dads long hook Peterbilts an Kenworths.

Update.
Did a little work on this last night... (then wanted to see it with some tires) so even though I am not at the step for tires I mounted them anyway (easy to remove as required).... quick pic

Re: Gotta start somewhere Globe liner and 3 axil Trailer

@debears (what color?)

Not sure yet... probally will only paint the cab (and interior) on this one to start....

so completed choices so far
Servo's - Futba 3003 - 3 speed gear shift
Futba 3004 - Stearing

Bearings vs bushings.... after reading all the comments I will try supplied bushings.. (If it is too loud while running - I will switch out to bearings later)

having trouble controling myself... want to make mods already (simple to start - longer rails.... thinking it will need longer rails at some point)

cant wait to have it running

thanks all for the comments

You can't go wrong with the globe, pretty nice kit. I know I really enjoyed building mine. And I like the reefer trailer, but I have heard good and bad about the trailer. Enjoy your builds, and happy truckin'.:);):D

Re: Gotta start somewhere Globe liner and 3 axil Trailer

Well, got some more time in last night...

So one thing (it is together and working) but this could be my first upgrade.
Is it normal for the suspension to have what I will call a fair amount of play?

First upgrade may be the dampers(shocks)..... I'll finish putting it together and run it before i decide ... but they seem suspect to me.

Still not to the step that you mount the wheels but I love looking at it with the tires on!!!

few more pictures.

Re: Gotta start somewhere Globe liner and 3 axil Trailer

Better put in a gear reduction unit or go with a high turn motor with a 6 tooth pinion gear or you won't be happy:eek::eek: Truck will be almost too fast to control unless you want to run around in 1st gear all of the time.

Re: Gotta start somewhere Globe liner and 3 axil Trailer

Well on your way, I see! It's funny, but after seeing so many stretched trucks being built on the forum, that frame looks ubber short!

Yeah the long hoods are bigger than Euro and Asian trucks but that Globe (or Freightliner in real life) looks to have the same wheelbase as any twin axel Scania, MAN, DAF, Renault, Volvo, Merc, Hino or Iveco.

Good start Laser, I have only built one kit so far myself and I really, really enjoyed it. Trying to get the money aside for upgrades and mods now and hopefully another kit in the future, maybe a Globe Liner or a King Hauler.

Re: Gotta start somewhere Globe liner and 3 axil Trailer

@tc1cat... Gear Reduction..-- Yea, Im sure I will need something in this area--- gear reduction- and 100+ other mods.... but want to get a runner up and enjoying it.. then start a 2nd (these things are like Layes potota chips I think... 1 will never be enough)

@espee... short rails .. --- It does look Short with all the modes and streched rails rigs on the form... maybe that will make it Uniquie in this case!!!!...

I enjoy the comments and customizing/option discussions - keep em commin'

did a bit more work last night on this (3 speed Tranny) Hope I got it right!!.. we will see soon....

Naked Tranny

Set it there (hmm should maybe rotate the moter 180 to put the wires on top) to see what it looks like

This Fourm has been very helpfull for researching everything from Bearings, to Radios so far.....

A special thanks to our Fourm hosts for all the effort you are putting in. THANKS!

Coming right along Jeff:D Now I know this is your truck, but may I make a suggestion? Paint the transmission cat yellow. I know you don't see much when the truck is on it's wheels, but if someone say's what does the under side look like? When they see the transmission, it adds eye candy.:) Just a thought.;)

I agree with big John on this. just adds a nice little ready to do detail to the truck.

Re: Gotta start somewhere Globe liner and 3 axil Trailer

Looks good man :) I agree on the cummins colors :p and if you do decide to go with a MFU you may as well go with a servonaut unit, way better in my book. Although it was a little more expensive it was well worth it :D

SWAGGER 04-17-2012 03:04 PM

Re: Gotta start somewhere Globe liner and 3 axil Trailer

Yeah looking good! Nice radio too, but it won't work if you go with an MFU, you'll need something with analog trims. Not sure about the Servonaut unit as I have never used one, that may work with digi trims. Someone who knows better should be able to advise you there.

dabears 04-17-2012 05:17 PM

Re: Gotta start somewhere Globe liner and 3 axil Trailer

My dx5e has digital trims and it works with my mfu. Is tricky sometimes but works ok.

SWAGGER 04-19-2012 03:21 PM

Re: Gotta start somewhere Globe liner and 3 axil Trailer

Well it will work, but don't you have to keep tappin the digi trim to get all the way over? I guess it can work, but is not recommended because it's slow, you can't just flick the trim over to change function.

Yea it can be a pain but works.

Re: Gotta start somewhere Globe liner and 3 axil Trailer

Hi,
So yea,,, I think I jumped the gun on the Radio.. but wanted something nice with multiple models..
Ill have to try it with an MFU when I get one see how it works... (If I dont like guess I have to get a different radio).
So been driving it around the house the last few days... Still trying to decide what color I should make it..
Gonna start with the cab.. then work on other parts like the transmission - then maybe the frame...
I think I try to start on the trailer this weekend too

Thanks for all the details and comments

With any luck I'll make some painting and trailer progress this weekend and post some additional pics... (there are sure a lot of parts in the trailer)

Loving this form!

Jeff

Re: Gotta start somewhere Globe liner and 3 axil Trailer

Hi All,
Some slow progress.
Been working on the Trailer -
And also proving once again I have no Painting - finishing skills.

The cab is still in the painting process - gonna be here awhile...:o:confused::o:confused:

Pretty sure at this point that the top of the cab will be White!!!... still thinking about the rest

Just stuck on the cab to I could enjoy a little stick time and see what it looks like with the first part of the trailer attached.

Yep ... again not to the step for the wheels to be mounted but I mounted them any way.. just couldn't wait

A picture !! (man this thing is gonna be big... )

That's a great color combo! Looks Sweet just like that

Re: Gotta start somewhere Globe liner and 3 axil Trailer

Thanks dabears. I like this color combo so much that I am really hesitating to put any of the stickers on... I think I’ll keep it like this for a while...

If a fellow showed up at a meet with no DOT stickers would he be allowed in?:D

Well......that turned out REALLY well, considering you were so concerned about your painting skills, i'd say you have nothing to worry about. Great job.

Re: Gotta start somewhere Globe liner and 3 axil Trailer

Thanks Swagger...

The quality of the builds on this Forum are amazing....I have a ways to go ..:) - this is one of the things that makes this RC Field very exciting for me

There are a few minor flaws in the painting but this is the best I have done so far and the next one will be even better with what I have learned/tried this time..... (I used the laser to cut out the Wolf/Moon image)

For now as long as the camera is not too close and the JPG DPI is low it looks pretty good. ;);)

Over all I am very encouraged and already thinking about another Truck...(gotta finish my trailer first)

Driving this thing around is great.. and boy does it turn heads.... Maybe I can drag a few more people into RC Truck and construction world... The guys at one of the local hobby shops want me to bring it in when the trailer is complete so they can take some pictures for their stores and sites.

I hope to be posting more Trailer updates soon

:D

Regards,
Jeff
