2 IH 433 payscrapers (ps433-2 moves)

I do not quite remember all of the beginning so I'll give some pics w/a narrative . I decided to try to build (what I have seen thus far) what has not been done . so far it is a great success :D
the scaling of pics and design and pattern making , starts with a parts book and some general knowledge of compacity range as it's difficult to acquire data for these old machines . all motor scrapers have a basic shape and size according to bowl compacity . So I figured out the comparable machine in another bran such as a cat 637 to get the general dimensions . basically using the tire size to finesse the design

the next few pics are of the assembly . now scrapers are heavy so are these by design :D the round at the goose neck is a 12000# front axle king pin :p

I wouldn't call them scrap pile's heck mine came from scrap piles LOL 1 thing I learned in fabricating nothing ever goes as plan . I got to redo some areas to put the trannys in also extend the goose neck because of not having exact dementions but thats how it always goes for me :( but I still try to :D

Steve.. Nice going..

I could bring the D8 by to use as a push cat to save all that bending over..LOL
I always wondered how well a scraper would work for us..Lots of possibilities

What does the scraper weigh..??

ihbuilder 08-16-2010 10:19 AM

Re: 2 IH 433 payscrapers (ps433-2 moves)

in excess of 40# , the weight is the key;)

Wow! Great job with that scraper. Loved watching the video of her in action. At 40 pounds, she is pretty hefty! Must be a pain in the back to move her... literally. :D Can't wait to see more from you.

ihbuilder-looking good!! what tires are you using and what size are they?

ihbuilder 08-18-2010 11:08 AM

Re: 2 IH 433 payscrapers (ps433-2 moves)

thanks Dan , yea she's getting heavy and not done yet still got to make the ejector and may fill the tires w/bb's + elec. and hydros . thats the purpose for the 5900i + rogers so I don't have to carry it :p

thanks Tom , the tires are off the tamiya mammoth . 6" dia. x 2" wide they scaled out rite on

Thanks for the info-I gave up on the mining truck I wanted to build because I couldn't find the correct size tires.

Re: 2 IH 433 payscrapers (ps433-2 moves)

Tom, Why don't you try to cast some tires from silicone? If you could come up with the right size you probably could sell some to others in the same situation. What dimensions are you looking for?

I grew up with IH construction equipment and really enjoy seeing your scrapers. What truck are you considering?

I agree the construction tire issue is not very good here ...Wonder if the rock crawler parts supplier that makes the scale rig tires could be talked into making a few different versions ..Im sure the are a few guys on here the know him personaly .
THe scrapers are looking good steve...looks like you have the drive pretty well figured out with tons of power to load ..Are you planning to add a second gear as well?

ihbuilder 08-20-2010 11:51 PM

Re: 2 IH 433 payscrapers (ps433-2 moves)

Tanks LOU I was planing to but with the trannys I got to change a lot . so I'm thinking of gearing it up for the high speed and use the radio to slow it down . got plenty of power and weight :)

Because the trucks are 1/16 and 1/14 approximately. The german construction equipment is built in these scales as well. Then there is all the diecast in 1/16 you can use for static loads/staging/cargo. :)

Pics are fine Steve, glad to see you figured out good picture taking. :nice:

Good work on the fenders, the scraper is coming together nicely. I don't see the two speed trannies , not on this one?

no , I ditched the idea for now . I just increased the speed through the gearing and I'll slow it down through the radio ( If I need to ) . The boxes I got just would not work for what I want . so when I start putting #1 together I'll build my own . I'm just eager to get one working then fine tune later .

dang It joe , Now you got me thinking about the 2 speed again . After I wrote that previous post ,I couldn't leave it alone .( I get tiered of redoing ) . for some reason ,all my builds seem to take longer then I expect them to
