project Road Hawg
Well finally got some time to tear down my truck to start building my first custom truck. This is what I'm shooting for
http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...62/BWS4378.jpg Hopefully I can get it close. Here's where I'm at so far. I got some frame rails cut and most of the holes drilled and tapped, and in roller form. http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMAG0044.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMAG0043.jpg I picked up a PMD front bumper in Indy and put it on. I also moved the front axle forward per John Stylin and Profilins . I think I may need to move it forward some more. Not sure yet http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMAG0047.jpg I also may cut a little more off the back of the frame. when I was drilling it out I forgot to move the rear axlles back. I'll have to see once I get to putting a bumper/lightbar on. http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMAG0048.jpg The cab in these pics is the stock cab just sitting on the frame for now to give some reference. I've got another one that already has gone under the knife, and the dremel, ans the saw. LOL This will probably be an all winter project as time and $$ are two things on short demand. Let me know what you guys think. Any constructive criticism is welcome |

Re: project Road Hawg

Re: project Road Hawg
Well got some goodies ordered, hopefully be here in a couple days
|
Re: project Road Hawg
Dave - if your interested - I slid my front axel forward on my day cab just like you did. But then added the little chain "hooks" that come in the flat bed kit, just on the front side of the axel between it and the spring to act as a wedge to correct for the spring arch.

Re: project Road Hawg
Well I got some goodies in the mail, and some small progress
http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMAG0056.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMAG0055.jpg I got the new sides on the hood http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMAG0057.jpg I changed the angle of the windshield http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMAG0060.jpg And I cut around the top of the cab to raise the back up to get a little more of a Pete look http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMAG0061.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMAG0062.jpg I wasn't happy with the way the top of the cab came out above the windshield, so I'm in thprocess of changing it a bit. And I addaded some styrene to the top of the sleeper to give a more rounded contour once I sand it down. http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMAG0058.jpg That's all for now, let me know what you think. |

Re: project Road Hawg
The 1:1 Peterbilt looks really nice. You have good taste. Nice work on the model so far. I'm curious to see how the cab turns out. I like that you are putting in some extra work to make it more authentic. Keep going.

Re: project Road Hawg
Got some work done this weekend. Got the back wall put in the sleeper, and the rear window cut out. Added some filler and did some sanding. Still have some more sanding to do. Sorry for the bad pics it's from my phone

Re: project Road Hawg
Time for a small update.
Shot some primer on the sleeper to see how much sanding I still need to do.....Holy cow. All the little spots are magnified. http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...psf993e0ed.jpg. Also got the motor/trans and 5th wheel mounted. Then moved the front axle forward some more. Gonna have to mount the shock tower mounts at an angle to to keep the function of them. here's a couple pics http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...ps74d13301.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2e1697b7.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4c00599f.jpg |
Re: project Road Hawg
The joys of body work.Cant wait to see some paint on it.
|
Re: project Road Hawg
Haven't had much time lately to work on the truck, but was able to get a little bit done. Still ongoing body work. Got the motor/trans, and cab floor mounted. I couldn't resist a little mock up to see what it might look like.
Here's a couple pics. http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMAG0085.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMAG0089.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMAG0087.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMAG0091.jpg I think the height of the sleeper might be a bit too much. What do you guys think. |

Re: project Road Hawg
Had to dust this off for a small update.
I cut down the height of the sleeper, got the hood glued back on. The weather wasn't cooperating to try and get any body work done. Seems like all I do is fill and sand, then repeat. Got a package in the mail the other day...Steve's A/C's, these are nice. I had to put them on and see what it looked like. http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_0002.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_0008.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_0006.jpg Then today I got home from work and another package came in the mail http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_0010.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_0011.jpg |
Re: project Road Hawg
Looking good Buddy!!! I like it!

Re: project Road Hawg
Nice work with the cab mods. You're pretty good with styrene! The extra work is really going to pay off when the model is painted.

Re: project Road Hawg
Well being that I don't drink anymore I figured I'd stay home and work on the truck some. So what better way to bring in the new year than with a small update. I got Russ's steps and John's stacks mounted. I also am using Paul/Russ's stack relocation brackets. Russ sugessted using 1/8 in flat stock to mount the steps. After trying to figure out how to get the heigth of the step right, the answer was in front of me with the stack relocation bkt. I drilled 2 holes to mount the flat stock to the frame, then drilled two lines of vertical holes in it and filed the parts in between to give me 2 long holes so when I mounted the steps tho the flat stock it gives me the ability to adjust the heigth of the steps. Also got Steve's a/c's mounted
A few pics http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_0038.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_0041.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_0039.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_0042.jpg |
Re: project Road Hawg
Small update. I made a set of fuel tanks andot them mounted. Had to make a small adjustment to the sleeper to have enough clearance for the stacks.
Let me know what you guys think http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_0044.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_0046.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_0048.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_0050.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_0049.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_0045.jpg |
Re: project Road Hawg
Coming along very nicely. All the body work and tanks look great.
|
Re: project Road Hawg
Looking good buddy!!

Re: project Road Hawg
Well I got it running under its own power with mfu(no vid yet). Having a problem getting the remote start to wotk with dx6i. Anyone else have any issues with this or a solution. I went through the thread on how to cofigure dx6i with mfu but still no remote start.
Any help is appreciated Thanks Dave |
Re: project Road Hawg
Small update. Got some cab and sleeper skirts made. Working on a filler piece that goes between the fuel tanks at the back.

Re: project Road Hawg
Side skirts are looking good buddy!!
|
Re: project Road Hawg
Agreed, the cab skirting looks pretty nice! Glad you are still plugging away at this project.
|
Re: project Road Hawg
Yeah, I like the way the skirt hugs the tank. Nice job.
|
Re: project Road Hawg
I agree with all above. The side skirting looks good...

Re: project Road Hawg
Time for a small update. Getting the bodywork close to being ready for paint. Still waiting on a couple parts for the cab to finish it up. In the meantime I installed a set of Russ's airride on the trailer.
http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...psbee3810f.jpg http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...ps026a0258.jpg Then I couldn't resist getting it together and taking it out for a test drive.
