king hauler dump

So i'v been pretty quite here for a while and i'v just got back into it.

this build will be A king hauler day cab with one of Reg's dump box's.

The truck came in the mail today I got the black edition because it was about $40 cheaper for some reason, i'll end up painting it another colour though.

it'l be 6x6 with a TLT-01 axle in the front, and for now I am borrowing the R2 transmission out of my R620 build.

http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/...psc3be1c68.jpg

unfortunately I can't do anything really until the rest of what i'v ordered comes.

And I also got this the other day, it's an electric screwdriver and for $15 it's a cool little tool.

Yeah they are looking pretty **** awesome!

I managed to find some bearings I had laying around so I got the rear axles together, I used 80,000 wt grease instead of the tamiya stuff so as to lock the axles up abit to give it more traction off road.

Re: king hauler dump

In my blue COE Dump I have the rear axle locked, just put the 3 spline gears together instead of staggered. I can take a pic tomorrow to explain better if need be. this way the rear is basically a posi rear end and the front is limited slip so as long as the rear grabs im good. you could lock the front and leave the rear open either way works good. some lock both

Ok, yeah if it wouldn't be too much trouble that would be great.
I'm always open to suggestions.

Thanks buzzy

so this afternoon I will be turning the body into a daycab.

buzzy16 01-14-2014 12:01 AM

Re: king hauler dump

So I got on to it and made the cut, it was actually really exciting, it's the first major body work that I have done.

http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7280db16.jpg

these little clips are very handy too.

http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/...ps80f321b0.jpg

I was someone using this on the forum and I decided to see what it's like, oonly time will tell I suppose.

http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/...ps12e6d06f.jpg

It's abit messy but sanding and what not will fix that up.

http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/...ps13f91e39.jpg

thanks for looking.

thank you, yeah i'v heard some putties shrink after a while. but if this putty doesn't work i'll give the tamiya stuff a go then.

dabears 01-14-2014 11:31 AM

Re: king hauler dump

Bondo shrinks I think. I use the squadron green putty. seems ok

I used to use the testors stuff back in my 1/25th scale days and didn't see any problems with it

buzzy16 01-15-2014 01:46 AM

Re: king hauler dump

well that's a relief dabears :D

I did some sanding today and i'll pick up some primer after work tomorrow to see if it needs more.

it's probably not the best work but it is only the second time i'v worked with putty.

Looking good Buzzy. What color are you going with?
I guess you brought RCP57's 2nd dump box he built based on my design.
Did you have him make any other modifications to it?

John

Thanks john, and I have actually decided yet, I'll just leave that till I get everything together and make my mind up.

And yeah I just couldn't help myself haha, and nah no modifications it's a very good design already.

Wow Buzzy, Reg does an outstanding job doesn't he. His boxes are excellent quality and superb build. Wish I lived there so we could run our twin dump trucks together, that would be too cool. Did you get the tailgate servo lock option?
What kind of electrical problems are you having? Lift motor?
Have you decided on a cab color yet?

Looking great so far!

yes I am amazed at the workmanship of these boxes!!

and it would be awesome to run both together for sure.

Yes I got the servo lock option and the limit switches. and the electrical problems were that everything was working by it self but as soon as I plugged all the motors and servos in nothing would work, but I fixed that.

now unfortunately yesterday when I plugged the battery in I didn't realize but the negative lead that goes into the esc had come out and it touched the truck motor lead and I think it may have shorted the esc out  I'll do some testing today but it looks like i'm going to need a new esc.

oh and the colour is a surprise ;)
here the truck with the cab sitting on.

Re: king hauler dump

Oh man, if you are sticking with black, our trucks would be identical twins!!
Sorry to hear about the ESC, hopefully it's ok and you won't have to buy another one!
Glad you got things figured out thou.
John

buzzy16 01-31-2014 05:45 AM

Re: king hauler dump

Yeah I'm sticking with black but with a little twist :D

And the esc is a sabertooth 2x12 rc and the error light is just flashing red so I think it's had it, I think I'll just order another one tomorrow and if it turns out to work again then I'll have an extra haha

Looks good buzzy! I'm looking forward to seeing this run around all finished up. I can't believe that pieces out of my shop are in Australia! It seems crazy for sure.

That sucks about the ESC.

Looks like you're hauling snowballs!

So it's been a while since I updated this. I sat the truck on the shelf for a while but the past couple of days i'v got the cab ready to paint and I got another sabertooth 2x12 RC a while ago too.
hopefully my paint will turn up next week.
so here's where i'm at.

Re: king hauler dump

I got the first lot of paint on today, no pics sorry. I'v got the black base coat down now i'v gotta do some tricky stuff with the green and purple hopefully without stuffing it all up.

And can someone clarify if a 4000mAh 3S 20C lipo battery would be right to use with the sabertooth esc i'm using?

Also what size wire does everyone use in their trucks?

thanks Buzzy

So over the last couple of days i'v got some paint onto the body, I'm happy with how it turned out, there are still some touching up to do and maybe even some pin striping :D

Re: king hauler dump

It's not completely finished but I took it outside today and moved a couple of loads of gravel with it. I still don't have the drive shaft for the front axle but hopefully that will be here next week. I also bought a 2 cell lipo so that should be here within the next couple of weeks as well.

All thanks to your dump box Reg. I was actually quite surprised by how well the screw drive lifts the weight.

Great build. Having that small electric drill would be a life saver.
