3d printed flip bumper mount
the test truck for the airbag setup also has a texas bumper that can scrape up ants, so i thought i'd try a flip bumper. the first version will need to be printed completely. but i'm going to try to make one that requires a couple of modifications to stock parts. credit to 802 at thingverse for the bumper, Neophyte at thingverse for the original hinge design i modified, and Steen Winther at grabcad for the mount, the servo is a pico servo from one of my micro helicopters. pics of the files for now, test parts are printing. i didn't want just a simple piano type hinge, so hopefully this one lets the bumper swing up and out a bit
if all goes well, this is the plan: take off the stock front bumper mount, then print this bumper piece http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=320x240 print the new front bumper mount with the servo mounting and hinge points http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=640x480 print the links http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=640x480 http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=640x480 backside http://photos.bigdogrod.com/i.ashx?g...rdsize=640x480 |

That's AWESOME! Have you acquired & placed all the files in one downloadable package? If so where? I have a friend that has a bumper with low ground clearance, that I'd think would love to have one of these!

Re: 3d printed flip bumper mount
well version 1 complete fail... lol
the links are smaller than a penny and won't hold up to the stress, also the servo needs to move down 15mm to clear the steering and shift servos version 2 was done as a conventional singe point hinge, but it runs into the same problem i thought it would, there'd no room to tilt the bumper without hitting the body, so it's back to the drawing board for the 2 point hinge. the bumper needs to drop a bit, then flip. |

Re: 3d printed flip bumper mount
Yah I'll be getting a newer bigger one at some point . Originally I started out with one of those Anet A8 clones that you have to put together , I was never really impressed with the print quality , I stumbled on the Mini Select on Kijiji and it peaked my interest , I researched it and was pleased with what I read so I went ahead and bought one . Loved it right away , that was V1 and I found a V2 also on Kijiji , not too impressed with it , it has a few minor bugs . I plan on using them for a little while longer , save up a few bucks ,sell them and buy a bigger better one . But locally . I found a place about 20 mins away that sells makerbots and others
