Flysky fs-i6 work for us?

Does anybody have experience with the Flysky fs-i6? Or the fs-i6x?

It's a 6 channel computer radio that can be firmware upgraded to 8 or 10 channels. It can do telemetry back from the model depending on the rx and telemetry modules. The fsi6 is going for about $50, or $70 if you get the fsi6x (10 channel) at most online stores i've seen. There are forums working on hacking, modding, and tweaking them to go way beyond their design. They have several rx that work with it depending on what you need.

You can get the spare gimbles to convert from throttle to both sticks centered
http://m.banggood.com/Flysky-FS-i6-2...p-1058191.html

I'm thinking after swapping throttle for a second centering stick in this would be a great excavator and truck radio. What do you guys think?

------
Fsi6 is good for us, fsi6x is good for us.
It's Very easy to do a gimbal change to make both centering

Re: Flysky fs-i6 work for us?

I resently bought a FS-I6 & HATE IT! I ONLY bought it because I couldn't fully control the 3 speed Tamiya transmission with my Spektrum DX4. I could ONLY get 2 of the 3 gears to function.

The FIRST trip with the FS-I6, I put brand new duracell batteries in it. Took the King Hauler to the church next door to run in the asphalt parking lot they have. Got everything set up as I liked it, & started to have fun. After about 3 minutes of fun, the LOW VOLTAGE ALARM, for the TX battery went off. This caused the failsafes to activate, stopping the truck. I started to slightly ease off the throttle, (preparing to power down) & the dang thing started to function again. It sent ALMOST FULL throttle to the truck. Truck was STILL in 3rd gear when this happened. The voltage meter on the TX read 5.8V. as soon as the alarm quit sounding, which happened as I started to move the throttle to the neutral position. When the TX sent almost FULL throttle to the KH, it boogered something up. Now when I try to drive it it makes abnormal sounds. Not sure what/where gears are stripped at. I was so disgusted, I placed everything back on it's self. I've yet to tear into it to see what/where the problem(s) are. I HATE the FS-I6, & plan on buying either a Spektrum DX6, or a Futaba radio to use. I'm really leaning towards the Spektrum DX6. I LOVE my DX4, for my simple (By simple I mean FWD/REV, & steering are the ONLY functions I need to have control of) models, but not for running more than 2 channels.

Re: Flysky fs-i6 work for us?

That's interesting, and idea what the problem was?

After this post had several hundred views and no replies, i picked one up. I've seen them in background of several workshop shots of builders i respect. All the reviews were pretty good.

So far, I've had good luck with it. The setup menus take a while to get used to, cancel to accept changes, ok to cancel. I haven't done the throttle stick change since i can't get banggood to take my money. It's just running a stationary Dragline crane for me.

The 2 of 3 gear trans problem sounds like you need to play with endpoint adjustments. If the radio you actually like won't do it, check out a "servo stretcher" it goes between the rx and shift servo.

Re: Flysky fs-i6 work for us?

The DX4 throws from 1st directly to 3rd. When I set end points, it will do 1st, & 2nd, OR 2nd, & 3rd, I can't precisely control it so it will do all 3 gear shifts. IDK if there is a way to make it work, if there is, I'm all ears. I LOVE my DX4, & would like to NOT have to buy a new radio.

I didn't mod the FS-I6, I just put throttle on the right stick up & down & steering on the right stick left-right.

Re: Flysky fs-i6 work for us?

Trans shifting needs to be on either a 3 pos switch or a stick with shifter gates, so you get -throw, center, +throw. Sounds like you were on a 2 pos switch.

My DX4 has a function in the settings where i can choose 2 or 3 point move for servo. Open and look.

@ Bo Wallen, Thank-you, I shall take it to the LHS & see if they can shed some light on that for me. IDK much about technological stuff.

Their forum has it's own flysky section, and an english speaking flysky rep that's a member.

Do you have the manual that comes with the radio? If not go to Spektrum.com and down load it. It will tell you which switch you have to use for 3 position, not technical very easy. Bo is correct your trying to shift the transmission with a 2 position switch.

The FS-i6S has only one mix available?? Why bother calling it a computer radio??

I guess it being touch screen and usb port makes it "computer type radio" but the single mix is disappointing. I only use it when roading the loader ie steering only. Been eyeing that dx18 seems like endless possibilities at a price of course.

Looks like when they're upgraded to the 10-ch firmware, it gives more available mixes.

I don't know for sure, i haven't ordered the update cable to convert mine yet. I haven't even opened the cd that came with it, i don't have anything too fancy yet

10 channel, with 14 channels if you run ibus.

Frizzy, I'll be watching to see how your updating the FSi6 works out.

He goes over a lot of stuff fast. Says there are 3 mixes on stock firmware

More RX are available.

The rcgroup forum lost their guy in the company, he got reassigned somewhere.

Yes, the Spektrum DX18 is going to give you endless possibilities.. 16 mixes!! I have an excavator that I used 15 channels and I think all 16 mixes on one of my DX18's... I have been able to follow through with certain plans and ideas because of the DX18. Additionally, they are very easy to use compared to other radios.

Frizzy, have you had a chance to try out the upgrades yet?

FS-i6 has 3 mixes but the newer FS-i6S only has one mix:mad:

I wanna get this transmitter!
Which receiver should it be paired with, considering it'll be used for truck, not a Milti-Rotor?
Sorry for noob question :)

Re: Flysky fs-i6 work for us?

Get the fs-i6 or fs-i6x. It's a nice entry level rig, it's not the best. They've already pointed out you may outgrow it pretty quick, but i'm still not at that level.
I'm cheap and don't need channel mixing for hydros. You could probably put the hydro esc on an aux channel with a Pot running it, and treat it like hand throttle for setting idle / running speed? Maybe put it on the normal/acrobatic mode switch? I dunno, i built a cable-machine to avoid all that.

https://oscarliang.com/flysky-tx-rx-buyers-guide/

The easy answer for RX is either:
Fs-ia6
Fs-ia6b
Standard connectors, all plug&play.

I'll try to dig deeper, there are also 8 / 10 channel rx that work too, and can send telemetry back to the tx if you add sensors. Or if you're tight on space, there are some that should work with extra soldering.

Re: Flysky fs-i6 work for us?

I am absolutely stealing the thunder from Dremu. Over on another board we were talking about a build he hasn't yet shared here, and quietly mentioned some really slick radio mods hes put together.
I'm sorry sir, this is way too cool not to share!

http://www.slosh.com/rc/flysky/compile/

1. Skip the startup "Switch Safe Check"
2. Change display of a Switch to Pot
3. Custom draw *.bmp pictures for models (only 2 per radio though)

This is computer programming, it could brick your radio if you aren't careful enough.

And how to input some more switches
http://www.slosh.com/rc/flysky/addl6switches/

---

Wow, it's been a while since i went looking for mods. There are now people adding "Switch E" off a test point on the pcb, using the trainer port on back with an aurduino in a breakout box to add channels, transmit 14 channels...
