New to Semi Trucks, got a MAN TGX 6x4

Hey everyone I just joined the forums here. I have a ton of RC modeling experience and I am not new to RC, but I am new to Tamiya and the Semi Trucks. I just ordered a MAN TGX 6x4 and got it up and running with a few mods already (3:1 gearbox, reconfigured the steering servo to the front)

I bought a trailer at my local hobby shop and bought a load of bearings for the entire thing. I custom moved the hitch point to bring the trailer closer to the back of the cab, looks awesome.

I will take some more pictures tomorrow of my mods.

On another forum I was asked how I moved the trailer: To move the reefer trailer hitch point back I cut off a few inches of the actual trailer frame. Then I had to drill some holes all over to allign up the pieces. Like 2 holes on the trailer aluminum floor and frame to allow the nuts from the plate to fit inside. Then I drilled and tapped 2 holes for the trailer hitch auto release mechanize. It all fit really nice.

I have some huge questions also please help!
1. When I power on my transmitter, then my reciever, all the servos go like HARD OVER, like way father then the normal range, then they slowly move to center...? I have never seen this before and have no idea how to avoid this, it bends all sorts of linkages and everything on start-up.. not good.

2. Why does the reefer trailer have 2 striaght axels, then the rear one is a weird steering axel, but its locked up with tie-rods..? Can you make the trailer steer or something?

3. What do you guys do for all the lights on the side of the trailer? I'm going to use 3mm LED's along the sides but I cant find anywhere to buy mini rectangle light covers to put over them, like on the front of this truck has on top.

4. I'm not using a Tamiya control unit, I bought LED's with blinkers built in, but they dont sync up for the hazard lights, how would I wire up something to make them all blink at the same time? (If I turn them on and off manually, they all go in sync on the first blink so it can work somehow)

Welcome aboard and thats a Great looking rig you have there, I'm really liking the color. At first it came on kind of strong but I have to say with some pin stripping or graphics it will look really hot.

This forum is really frustrating that this post got moved to such an inactive subcategory. The last several posts in here are over the span of a month... 741 vs 17660 posts... I get that "Euro" and "American" trucks look different, but all the inner workings are the exact same on the Tamiya models... having a different category for each is just dumb. No point to continue posting here how will I ever get questions answered or any help on such an inactive forum?

I don't use the MFU everything is wired up to a 8 channel radio. I managed to cram in working blinkers, brakes, main lights, brighters, reverse all into their own channel on the controller. My trailer also has rear wheel steering that is mixed between my steering channel which can also be toggled on and off, or you can steer it manually from a knob its pretty badass. Also another switch changes the amount of steering throw for when I'm cruising down the street.

Anyways here my light setup:
I used 2 phone cords and a jack I modded and glued into the trailer. I runs a total of 8 wires out and looks WAY more realistic then the Tamiya light set.

This section of the forum was requested by some of the members so their builds wold not get lost in the 300 King Hauler builds. You cant compare the activity in this section by the post as there are 39 threads compared to the 489 in highway truck and trailers. There is not a lot of activity in the emergency vehicle section but I still post my tow trucks there. Your first post in this section was 9 days ago and 2 members responded the same day and 1 more the day after. Your post today was 8 days after the last reply. If you have questions about the different trucks or trailers post them in the truck building tech section. Be patent not every question will be answered as fast as some would like but the right member with the right answer will find it and try to help.

Gorgeous looking setup, the orange looks awesome!
I painted my MAN yellow, might do the trailer hitch mod you've posted on my flatbed as long as there is enough room with the motorised legs. Was just going to move the coupler forward but realised that would look silly.

There is a set of black Thermo King stickers that would look pretty good on the reefer a/c unit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/TAMIYA-1-14-...ht_1317wt_1161
