Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.

I have been on this project for a while on and off, now I have compleated my first goal to finish the crusher and make it crush rocks, it was my main goal with this quite large task, for me atleast.

I said to myself, if I can make the crusher work then the rest will be a walk in the park more or less, so now when I got this done I will continiue to build the feeder, im still waiting on some parts to be cut.

In the end this will hopefully be a functionally mobile crusher, but this will take some time I think! :)

Im aming to make it as similar as the original but some details will be simplyfied to make building easyier.

Im running the crusher on a 5065-236kv motor with a 3cell lipo, 120mm flywheel and a 36-12 beltdrive.
The crusher opening is now set to 100x45mm at the top and about 9mm down below. Seem to crush pretty good this way, I had a larger opening with slightly less vertical plates but the rocks mostly just wanted to go up, not get crushed.
I have just tested with a half full crusher, I know it will probably work better when its almost full.
I only had 2 stops in it, but that was due to empty battery, if I will get more stops I will try a larger 40t pulley to get a bit more tourqe.

So here is a few pics of how it looks today, and a video. (In the video its not regular rocks, its a softer kind.

Here is the real deal 1:1.

Here is the CAD drawing of the assembly, its just a rough sketch to see how everything fits.

Are your crusher plates made from old thread cutting dies?

Nope, they are milled out of regular steel, we will see how they hold up in the long run.

Looks like a fun project.

Are you following plans or other info for any of the details like the amount of eccentric or the angle of the two plates?

Jim

Just info from Google searches, pictures and trial and error. :)

The eccentric throw is 4mm.

SWEET project Kalle!!!

Great to see you finally bring this project out of the shadows... it's like 6 months ago when I saw the 1st vid of the early breaker box. Can I assume you're making two everything as you go? :D :p

Like everything you have built in the past, this mobile crusher is gonna be scale appealing & very functional too. :)

Thanks Joe!

Yeah, I didnt want to post something before I even knew if im going to make it work, but now I feel that it might actually do! :)

Hehe, for now just one, but we will se in the future, there is a lot of work on this so I will probably not have the motivation to make another one! :)

Made a little more progress on the crusher. I got some parts for the feeder table, so welded that up and started to try out the motors I got for the feeder, it was kind of a shot in the dark becuse I had no idea how much power it would take and how much the table would weigh.
It turned out that the original weights on the motors were to small so I got some scrap brass and made the weights twice as big, that woke the vibration up pretty good.

So I think I found a nice vibration speed.

Also mounted the crusher to the chassis. Now im waitning on some parts before I can continiue on the conveyor and feeder.

Hello Kalle very nice project that will need a heavy steel fly wheel to crush properly. Ed

In the pics there is a quite large (120x25mm) flywheel in steel, I have already crushed Swedish granite rocks, very hard, will see how it does in the long run, but it does crush.

Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.

Thanks guys!

I have made mounts for the springs on the feeder, still a little more to do to make it work a little better.

I have also got the rubber strips for the conveyor, its 1.5mm thick, should work out just fine I think, waiting on motors and need to make som more parts for it still.

I have also invested in a 3D printer, nothing fancy, just a cheap chineese machine, works good enogh for me so far.
I have printed the covers for the flywheel and beltdrive, Still need to smooth out and sand the raw finish, but that will be later i think.

So here it is as of now...

Really Neat!

I really like the timing belt and drive sprockets, but do you think that plastic roller chain and standard chain sprockets would hold up or would there be too much stress and vibration in this application?

I'm asking because if I attempt something like this, it would be much easier for me to use roller chain and buy sprockets vs machining timing sprockets. Also, where did you find the timing belt?

Thanks for the pictures!

Jim

How did you join the conveyor belt? Do you have any pictures of that and what exactly is the belt material? Cloth reinforced rubber?

Thanks!

This timing belt is really strong, I would be suprised if it would tear apart.

Both belt and pulleys are from Maedler.de.

I did join the belt with a glue called Liquisole, I got it from my local food store, its a really common glue around here, got a very strong joint from it, and the joint is still flexible.

The belt material in Neoprene rubber 1.5mm thick.

Well, I got a bit more done to the crusher. I got a new more powerful motor for the feeder, works much better now.

Also got most of the conveyor done, a few more pieces to do but Im almost there.

Here are a few pics.
