It's amazing to think how long a tree that large has been around, isn't it? 400 plus years?

Here is another big one.

It kind of makes me sad to think they actually cut down trees this big. It would take centuries to see another one that large come along.

Holy huge batman. It's insane how big some trees can grow to and these probably are not even close to some of the biggest. And as Espee stated its kind of a shame seeing them go to be turned into a house or trim work.......

That is one heck of a log LOL. I agree , anything that has taken multiple centuries to get to where its at now should be protected.

I agree. I live in a small town where logging industry dominates and all of the old timers are like, "you know we used to haul 4 log loads all day:D " Back then if they logged as efficiently as they did now (the mountain blowing up 2 billion board feet didn't help either...) then there would still be good old growth and very nice second growth getting a good start. All the units left with big timber are protected now.:cop:

I agree with the protect, but they need better managed! They should make the forest like it SHOULD be if mother nature was in charge. Take ALL the small stuff down, & ONLY leave the biggest tallest standing. As it is now, if we DON'T fight forest fires, they will burn the ENTIRE thing. When Mother nature was in charge, regular fires burned up the underbrush, & all the short & small trees, leaving only the tallest biggest trees to survive another day. Too often when I drive through/past a stand of these protected trees, I see that there are too many smaller trees reaching into the foliage of the biggest tree's. If/when a forest fire starts, that entire forest is now at risk of turning into charcoal.
