6X6 Quarry Dump Truck
I acquired the Knight Hauler we built at the 2013 Indy show from Tc1cat. I decided after the RCT&C Midwest Spring meet I needed to get busy and build a dump truck. It will be a 6x6 and maybe a little different looking, it depends on how many cabs I destroy trying to build it:rolleyes:.
I got it last night and started on it tonight. Here's the truck as built. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4324f418.jpg And here it is a couple hours later. :D http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5c865f4f.jpg http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps351784e8.jpg http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6f80df51.jpg Hoping to have it done buy Indy:bounce:, Thanks for looking! |

Nice rig and love the work so far. I'll keep an eye on your thread to see how it turns out.

Hi,
nice work, proper build... What about the back bord? Will you keep it as it is or will you add some plates to give it a structure ? |

Thanks Tea wrex I need to get busy if I'm going to get it done by Indy.

There is some structure on the inside. I didn't put anything on the outside since you won't see it with the dump bed down. This is going to be what I call a "stand way off scale" build with emphasis on the play/fun factor instead of cool scale factor. I've picked up a lot of ideas from shows and meets I've been to over the last few years so we'll see if I can pull it off! |

Not much to show, finished the back of the cab and roof. Cut and rebuilt the floor.
This photo is a concept shot, I was hoping to use the stock rails but they are about 2-3" short, I need to move the steer axle back and put a scale 65" spread on the rear axles. I might as well bite the bullet and start from scratch with some blank rails. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7e196e56.jpg |

Small update, not getting far, more shopping for parts and deciding on a build strategy than actually building:rolleyes:
Made the frame rails. Laid out and drilled the front of the rails: http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps568398e4.jpg Added 4 leaves to the front and rear spring assemblies. (Rears shown): http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps303a3ccb.jpg Hand made spring mount plates for the driven steer axle: http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps001acad9.jpg Thanks for looking! |

Getting there slowly but surely. A few updates

The wheels were a test in removing chrome. Made a set of rims for the front since it has a TLT drive axle. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psvxg1qvhc.jpg Got to remove the chrome yet, no shiny stuff on this build. Thanks for looking!:D |

Thank Big John, the fender styling comes from the Western Star 6900XD along with the axle set back.

Spent a couple hours today making frame affixed fender mounts. Next time I do a build like this I'll mount them to the body. To many alignment issues mounting them separately.:o:rolleyes::)
