scale trailer
 

hi , I am a new member. I have been on here for a couple of months. I just got my first truck, it is a globeliner that is for the most part stock. now I need a trailer, I would like to build one, but need to know what is scale for length? and could someone tell me how to figure out scale my self? I will get some pics. up when I can for all to see what I got. I am going to need some small parts to finish the truck also. but I will get in to that later, for now I would like to have a trailer.

Welcome to forum.

14th scale is 12 / 14 = 0.857 inch equals a scale foot or for easier measure in scale building x 25.4mm = 21.77mm equals one foot in real life.

a 53' would be 45.5" long.

http://jbwid.com/scalcalc.htm is a good site to figure out in inches/centimeters. in the scale down section put in 14 or if you want true scale 14.5

Actually, a 53' trailer is 45 7/16 inches to be more accurate (45.428571 is real by calculator).

I might add that diffrent trailers tend to differ in length depending on the use and vintage.

Late model interstate .....flat bed trailers tend to be 48' where van trailers often are 53'

80's vintage you would see everything from 40' -45' and 48'

Dump trailers are normally short due to limited capacity because of weight.....24'-35'

That's true. You've made a good point. :)

The choices for length vary with the choice of equipment you choose to replicate. Take your time and have fun, it's what our hobby is all about. :D

something about building trailers. The Tamiya trucks are not necessairy properly proportional. Therefore measure your truck to be sure it not only works but also that it looks "right".

Also - the space from outside of frame rail to outside of frame rail is different for the trailers than it is for the trucks. SO if you plan to use a flat bed for a donor trailer for things like axels and suspension - buy the trailer early so you have it to measure. I sugget you partialy assemble it so that you get a better understanding of the relationships of the width, etc for the right look ......

ok so what I am getting, is that I need to buy a trailer and build it for my first? then build one if I choose to.
I would like to have a dump, flat, step deck, and lowboy. the first one will most likely be a flat cause that will be the easiest. I think anyway.
and I think I will build mostly 48' flats, and step decks, and lowboys.
and the dumps will be 32' frame or 39'frameless.
and cause I drive a truck and do heavy haul, I would like to have a multiaxle trailer also.
