Page 631 Walking Dragline

Hi there,

my name is Lorenz. Some of you might know me from the Garden. I don't know if the old thread will be fully restored but I'll try to post some of the old pics and resume it with the new ones. But at the moment there will be only a few old ones because there is nothing new to post.

Glad you found your way. I was in somewhat of a panic mode when the Garden was plowed under:mad:

Thx Steve :). I didn't realized it because I was on vacation with no internet. Lou told me that the Garden is history and I was really surprised. He also gave me this link.

awesome! I can hear the draglines at my back door now :P my office is getting moved soon because they are getting too close. A smaller crawler type is going to be digging up ground about 50 feet from where i am typing this by the end of next year for sure.!

in the background is Shand power station @ Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada

Just saw the video of your dragline walking. Absolutely great! Was at a coal mine today in western Kentucky where they are about finished assembling two walkers - not sure of make or model but appear to be about 45 yard capacity. Keep up the good work!

Lorenzo ...... Glad to see your work displayed here - always a good piece of entertainment ....

Hey kinda funny but - at first glance of your pics I thought you had moved to a local gymnasium in order to have enough space to work on your unit ...... Still amazed at it's size.....

Great Work
Chris

No work done yet on the Page. But the winter is already there so it seems I'll be able to start again soon.
Was on a big fair with the Page in October in Leipzig. Was really nice although I had a major damage on preperation day. The mast was to weak and brake so the whole boom colapsed. For the fair I installed just 4 of 5 boomparts without the mast. I'll redo the mast but this time I'll try brass. I'll fix the damaged boom part but I won't change the material. The boom is thicker and much stiffer so I think it will last. If not, we'll see.

Hey Rob, many thx. Where did you read my article? Where you in Germany? It was just about how I came to this project. It described the way.

I'm slightly back on modelling. The last 2 days I worked a bit on my lathe to turn some parts for the swing motors. I thought I'll use flywheels to get some smooth swing movement. And if all works well maybe I can swing by just tipping the stick on the radio instead of pushing it constantly.

I just put the motors almost there where they will work later

The flywheels are casted and purchased. I just turned them in shape.

That is a great idea, to use flywheels for the swing. It is one of the problems of working in scale. It is very difficult to get the same smooth movements as the real machine.
i have this problem with my 4100. The swing only works smoothly when a long boom is in a horizontal position.

I found one that's perfect. At the moment I'm trying to get it. But it looks good.
