Volvo A40F
Hi guys, I've been quiet for some time, but I finally had time to start a thread for my new project, Volvo A40F.
Here's the real thing: http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psf5e50133.jpg I will do the axles first and the idea is to use normal axles and add a planetary gear to the hubs: http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps6d275e09.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psc7844202.jpg The axles need to be widen and the drive shaft outer ends should be different to run the planetary gears. So the first thing is to make a new longer drive shafts. Here are the originals: http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps3c447ed9.jpg |
Re: Volvo A40F
Nice planetaries... Where did you get those from?
Also I like the diff lock... :-) Cheers, AP |

Oh wow, I thought the planetary was something that you made, I never knew they sold such a product.

Re: Volvo A40F
What scale Reg? Or will this match your other models scale. Big in other words.

Re: Volvo A40F
Nice. Subscribing for the updates. As always, I enjoy watching your builds. The planetary drives look interesting.

Re: Volvo A40F
An interesting start to a new project Ari, it's good to see you focused again

Re: Volvo A40F
My mistake Ari. I know better......;).

Re: Volvo A40F
Those reduction hubs are crafty! I've just spent quite a while designing my axles for my 966 build - I've gone inboard with the planetary reduction similar to wedico but I must say, these units do look the business. I'll be watching this with a keen interest.

Re: Volvo A40F
Where did you get the planatarys? Or did you make them?

Re: Volvo A40F
As always it is a pleasure to see that you start with a new project ..
Is a good dump truck in real life.. |
Re: Volvo A40F

Re: Volvo A40F
Very interesting start Ari with those planetary gears! What axles are you using and what is the overall width with the planetaries installed?
Thanks, Reg |

The width I'm aiming is 192 mm hub to hub. It needs several parts to attached the planetaries to axles. Also the bolt pattern on planetaries don't match with the rims I'm using, so I had to make a new hubs over them. Here are the parts for one side: http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psc87e2d97.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps241cf2fb.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psd60e28c3.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps59613839.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psac239670.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps50edfe84.jpg |
Re: Volvo A40F
Wow that looks awesome Ari! We are all glad to see you back in the game.
Where did you buy the axles from? I am looking for a set with the raised(offset) input/output shaft like I built for my Kenworth. I have seen pictures of an axle that I believe was made by Rigidrc online that had this but can't find any for sale. I may have to build my own again or use something like you are using. I can't afford to buy the $400 Euro a piece German axles! |

Re: Volvo A40F
I can't open the link Ari. Is it just me?
