Re: 1983-91 Econoline Ambulance

A single up firing 5mm led on each side of lightbar really isn't flashy enough, so i did this...
https://i.imgur.com/uUXKhTeh.jpg
Mounted a set of led rotators that have 4 light modes. Fast rotate, slow rotate, double flash, strobe.

Found out 'Wiggly Eyes' are the answer to my clear ditch light lenses!

Circuit to go more flashy.
https://www.electronics-project-desi...d-flasher.html
The 470 ohm resistors out goes to red led, added a 100 ohm set for the white led.
555 chip pinout
https://www.jameco.com/jameco/worksh...-tutorial.html
Hack servo, attach a diode at motor output and connect. Epic fail.

Get a "2 ch remote switch", hook THAT up. Like an absolute boss.

Gotta add some other remote circuits:
. Box corners / grill / aft wall. Alternating flash circuit. Sw ch.
. Rotators in lightbar.. 4 modes, Need y-harness a stick ch.
. Ditch lights. All sides together on Sw ch.

Normal car lighting control board - no penalty uses turn/burn channels. Gives headlight, taillight, brake, turnsignals, reverse, markers, and a few modes i don't even want.

Need to add holes for backup, rear turnsignal.
Front turnsignal needs two 3mm to give running & turn. Also painted the turnsignal lenses

That leaves 1 channel of my 6 for a siren if i can find one i like. Leaning toward an Evan Design police siren.

If i need more channels, i've gotta hack the FSI6 into the 10 ch it can be. Plus get a bigger rx

That bruder set does look nice.
But why on earth would you put a medic in all White? I could maybe see it on old-school floor nurse, or at a doc-in-a-box, but never a first responder.

I was figuring i'd start to cobble together a little bit of a loadout with a Playmobile suitcase, maybe sculpt a softbag. Nothing crazy, but enough to look good for some cool pics & video.

I guess if i made a post about All The Lights, i should have tried to show the Lights instead of mostly posing shots. The pool of blood didn't even really show up.

A guy over on Scale Firehouse is working on casting some clear lenses for my scene lights, so that should look and hold up better than slightly undersize wiggly eye lens. Once i get those i'll worry about getting the box corner lights baffled, and i'll have to decide if side scene lights want 3 or 5mm leds.

Probably going to talk to TrueScale russ about some led light bezels next month, the back end looks a little too raw.

I'm not sure why Bruder does that. I do concur that white ISN'T the best color for them. Perhaps you might could paint them to resemble the blue that we know?

The suitcase idea, I LOVE it! there's that out of the box creative thinking that you do so well.

Maybe it's Thinking Out of the Box, maybe it's just Scrounging, maybe it's immature and still has toys. All depends on who ya ask.

Nobody arrives empty handed, let's bump up the loadout...

Gurney got chromed out with a Molotow liquid chrome pen, it's wizardry.
Also added a playmobile suitcase until i can sculpt a softbag

My chinesieum switch isn't doing it for me. Ch1 on / ch1 off, ch2 on / ch 1&2 on, ch1&2 flash.

I don't want random stupid flash pattern, i already have a flash circuit that does what i want.

Thinking couple of these might be better.

Way overkill with sound, 15 switching outputs

I'm amazed by that being done with a chrome pen! It looks very well done! I'll have to look into acquiring some of er!

There was an incident at the RC show. Luckily there were a few pieces of equipment in the area.

https://i.imgur.com/COafFqWh.jpg

I'd finally gotten my front bumper cut and pushed forward, resecured it's mount pin back onto the grill. Then got tapped by something at the meet, so i've got to secure the mount again...

Also i managed to pick up some 3mm led size light bezels with lenses in raw aluminum from True Scale RC. My rear turnsignals and reverse lights are going to look so MUCH better! Hopefully the 5mm sized come back in stock soon.

I need to do a little creative wiring to tap front marker lights off the headlight channel of the body light control. Need to make backers for the headlights so they don't spill as much light off the back.
Still waiting on some surface mount leds because it's getting clearance lights.

Did i mention i was tired of posting pics after the photodump from the meet?

Huge thanks to Glmfaa1 over on ScaleFirehouse!
His lenses arrived in great shape. Looks like they'll fit awesome. I'll have to get the light boxes baffled so i can run some more leds up there. Stock unused are blue, his are clear, also had 2 ambers in there.

https://i.imgur.com/MYzz9Hrh.jpg

He also sent a tip about CK Train Accent and Accessory, i'll need to look into them for sirens also.

Right after the rc meet I installed these bezels with lenses over my turnsignal & reverse 3mm LEDs, and still gotta order a few more LED bezels off truescalerc for my 5mm. Also the bumper lights were already aluminum speedtaped, and got Tamiya x27 clear red, they will not get lighted.

Great lenses! Are they resin cast?

For siren and other sounds, I feel I should mention the Benedini micro, capable of controlling multiple sounds from a single channel or serving as a full engine sound + light controller unit. There is a cheap chinese clone available (dasMikro) with poorly translated instructions, old software and months of fun trying to figure out how it works (This is the one I'm testing in combination with the arduino).
A thread about the clone with instructions on another forum: https://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/foru...p?f=81&t=24339

Cast resin lenses

Very cool, i hadn't been having much luck with learning much on the sound units or switching circuits.

I guess one good thing about hanging around a hospital this weekend is i'm getting some more reference pics of ambulances.

That is super impressive. I may have to look into those lenses myself, to do the taillight caps on my 10x10 project.

Re: 1983-91 Econoline Ambulance

Thank you! I was hoping some video from the last meet with all the lights rolling would have surfaced, but i guess i need to setup a video host

I really like those lens bezels, it has a great finished look and lens even has the concentric lines on the inside. Machined and cast parts, it all snaps together. I need to see if they restocked so i can put in an order for some more.

This week i've been getting to hang out at a 'destination resort' in a room with a window overlooking the emergency deptartment ambulance bays, I've learned that i still don't have quite enough flashy lights on the rig.
Below beltline side rear needs a red, working with turnsignals,
Below beltline side front needs a yellow, that'll be a solid marker.
Above beltline side i may toss on another pair that work off the box corner flashers.

Rescue 18, where did you source it from? I've been searching for a cop car the would fit well with the Tamiya trucks. I have yet to find one. It seems this stuff is difficult to find in the proper scale size(s).

frizzen 06-16-2019 07:26 PM

Re: 1983-91 Econoline Ambulance

This new one is a Funrise toy from the early-mid 1990s i got off ebay. Both of these were "Rescue 18", later in the run they added a "Rescue 88", i believe on the Type 2 outfit. Minor update, I was just told the hitop is an Econoline with a chevy grill instead of really a chevy.

"Funrise" made cop cars with 2 bodies of panther CrownVics (late oval grill, and earlier with the 87 tbird styled grill), and a rounded Caprice mid-90s. If the ads don't specify length, get the one with more buttons. They're static, with lights and sound. Will need a donor chassis or parts.
Tonka also rebranded them, and has at least 1 of these in current production, i think i saw it at Target or Walmart.

''NewBright" made a cable-controlled 'square body' Caprice cop car with gumball lights, so easier conversion without a donor.
They also have a Plymouth Fury 2 door

"Jada" has a Camaro already in a b&w livery with lightbar in the 1/16 rc Fast&Furious rc car line, plus there's a new Challenger and 4 door Challenger that would work well. My Challenger came with a Ford GT

If you want to pretend you're in the middle east, or it's a DARE car taken from a drugdealer, there's even stuff like a 1/16 police Lamborghini available.

Uh, i *might* have been looking at police options when i remembered i had the AMC Matador, why do you ask?

Thank-you sir.

With all the trucks around RCland, we need some commercial vehicle enforcement around town. Some of them truck drivers a negligently overweight. Them poor lil roads are being broken apart. LOL!
