Gluing tires??

Hi Guys, I am new to the semi truck world and was curious about what is commonly done with regard to attaching tires to wheels. In racing they are glued and once worn out they are usually tossed out as the wheels are relatively plain and cheap. In scale crawling we use beadlocks a lot so wheels can be recycled. I have noticed here in the trucking world that there are some very nice wheels that are aluminum or some other type of metal, and it seems that they aren't of a beadlock variety.(I know that there are some beadlock types for semis) In this case how are the tires attached and subsequently removed? Getting superglued tires off of racing wheels can be an exercise of futility. lol Thanks for the advice.

Re: Gluing tires??

Don’t glue them, have never glued any of mine. Haven’t had any issues. As in all of this kind of thing there is all kinds of opinions. The biggest thing is if your going to build your truck to be scale in appearance then Your probably going to drive it more scale and speed will be fairly low. Tires don’t need glued, I use stock wheels and depending on what I’m building I will put appropriate tires on them. Watch where you get aftermarket wheels as that will be where you will run into trouble. I would use IHB wheels if you have to have aftermarket, he’s on the forum under Hobby Shops and has a web site:

No need to glue. Most aftermarket tires if soft have
Foam inserts. I'll second IHB rims are the best looking alcoa's out there

Like others have said no need to glue. Ditch the foam inserts that come with the tires and buy some of these hard foams. Your tires will never break bead even with a heavy load.

Re: Gluing tires??

I have stock tamiya rear tyres and rims on my bruder race truck and when I turn the front breaks on to lock them for doing burn outs the rear tyres dont move on the rims,
So dont glue them as others have said.

Cheers Tracy

Re: Gluing tires??

I bought some RC4WD tires a few years ago and they are very hard. one of my dump trucks when loaded on a hill it will spin the tires on the rim. I use hair spray to make the wheel tacky and it reduces the issue.

Re: Gluing tires??

Great idea !! I was thinking about using something to make sure the tires don't spin in the wheels. That might just work.
