Wow that's really nice. Great job! How did you do the pattern on the tires?

Thanks for the kind words guys...

Finster,

Here are a couple of photos that might help on the tire detail

I make pattern out of poster board and divide it into the desired number of cuts to be made..
Mark the spacings on the tire..
Cut a 2X4 at 30 degrees and drill a 1/4 inch hole to take the bolt ( axel shaft)
Note the red arrow..Each mark should allign on the arrow..Run the wheel throught the saw and advance to the next mark..
Set the table saw sled at 30 degrees and set the fence so that the wheel stops at a point where the center of the cut is at the center of the wheel..Always bump the wheel up to the fence on each pass to assure proper spacing..
Set the depth of the blade by making passes through scrap until the desired depth is attained..
I hope this helps..

Hi Lou

Good to hear from you.. It has been pretty quiet lately in my shop...I retired from the commercial building and have been playing around with other things..

I have a Joal Cat 375 excavator and have kept in around for a pattern if the need ever comes to make a larger version of it..I did a little investigation into doing a 1/16 scale version, but a bit intimidated by the size...That thing would be huge, over 3 feet long..The real one weighs over 160,000 pounds..

Re: Cat 966

Just think of all the extra room you would have to work with, LOL! I've found a furnace oil pump(hydraulic pump), that would be great in a large excavator. And they are cheap!
Cheer's, Neil.

Thanks for the explaining how you did the tire patterns, I appreciate it.

Neil,

I'd liked to know more about those pumps too as I'm sure others would as well. Maybe you should start a thread about them, so we can discuss them in detail, I don't want to hijack this thread anymore.

I'll start a new thread tomorrow, they are big in size, but that's the trade off!
Cheers, Neil.
