Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer

This one has been waiting in the background for a while but I finally got the frame drilled and tapped today to mount the suspension. It will be similar to the old school trailer but with taller sides and some other changes. I don't have much to show for now but over the couple of weeks things should start coming together.

Chassis...Tri-axle with airbags

For sale, 1 near new, barely used 2.5x0.4mm metric tap. Could use some TLC but is still sharp as it only threaded 7 holes...

Thankfully I can moderate posts within my Vendors section. If the trailer I build turns out nothing like that one I can delete the picture you posted.lol Just kidding.

I've never seen a tap break in two places before at the same time

Lmao that's one plus of being a mod  The tap sure got hot before snapping looking at the discolouration.

Haha, I can only change stuff here though and I don't even know how.lol No need to change things. I know some of the details probably won't make it onto the mini trailer but we'll get it close.

The tap didn't get hot. That's just the coating they apply(gold color). You can see that they are not the best quality as the coating has already worn off the tip after tapping just a few holes. They actually cut fairly well but it slipped between my thumb and finger causing it to "flick" sideways and breaking. I'm glad I bought two or I would be in trouble!

Re: Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer

I do have one of those Bo but I've never used it. I'm sure it would work well though. I had the frame set up in the vise on my mill and was tapping a few holes by hand as I went so that I could install the suspension and figure out the best axle spacing. I was tapping a hole close to the chuck on the mill and didn't really leave enough room for a good grip. My fingers slipped and boink. It was my fault for not giving myself more room and they are Chinese taps so the quality isn't great. Thankfully I was able to wind the broken piece out. Once the rails were taken off the mill freehand tapping was no problem but it did make me say bad words when the brand new tap broke.lol

Re: Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer

Trailers, trailers, everywhere:eek:. Not a lot of progress on this one but a little. I have been working as quickly I as can the last few days with my fingers on a few different projects. I made some time today to start the tub on this one. The sides on this seem tall to me but I think it is actually about right when compared to the trailer Brandon posted. I'm sure it will look a lot different once the ribs are added also. It's not too late if you feel it's too tall Brandon. More to come soon....

Judging by the tire height this 1:1 trailer must be between 5'-6'?

Reg do you think you can finish the top of the trailer like this ? Most dump trailers around here are used during winter for snow removal

Re: Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer

With a board on top? Yes I can. That's how Benny's was finished. That will make this one really tall though. Is that OK or should I shorten the panels a bit? They are 5" outside, 4 1/2" inside as they sit now. A board would add at least 1/2" more.

Yeah maybe take a tad off the walls so it doesn't look too tall with the board on top.

Re: Vertical Ribbed Dump Trailer

OK so a few weeks have gone by with other projects finally seeing completion but this one has been falling short on the love meter. In an effort to keep a promise I made to have this ready by spring I need to get back on track and focus! Stupid groundhog calling for an early spring:mad:....

Anyway, when the request was made to add boards on the top rails that meant I needed to either trim the pieces down I had already made on make new. I opted to make new parts and save the others for a future build. The new pieces are 5/8" lower than before so that when the board is installed we will end up with the same height as the first setup. Here's what I got done today. Not a lot but it's a start.
