Save your money. These are plastic toys only capable of playing in light saw dust/sand.

Take a look at RC4WD, they sell entry level rc construction equipment that will let you get familiar with the construction hobby.

Yes I have the top race excavator, nothing more than a toy. It does look decent but thats about it.

Hey Dus,
I am in the same boat as you. Seems like the HuiNa has bette replacement parts etc because yes it is just a cheap plastic toy so was thinking the would be the one to get

Re: choice of excavator i need help

Hi Percy, Thanks for the reply,
I know the hobby engine excavators can have the slipper clutches glued to make them lift a little more weight but I'm not sure as to how much more,
The top race excavator is the smallest of the bunch, the HuiNa is about the cheapest but I'm not sure if they can have there slipper clutches glues as well and I'm guessing they all have pretty much the same set up as far as the inners go it might be worth a look at them all in turn and see if there's any real difference before and after any gluing mods that can be done.
you could probably strip out all the workings and use good quality servos but if they had to go on the outside of the excavators it wouldn't look right to me
So I'm still unsure about the whole thing
I would love to have one that has hydraulics but way out of my price range

the top race and huina are the same hoe. I glued my gears on the top race and it did lift a little more but you could tell it was hard on it.

Also on the hobby engine you physically can't get the bucket below the tracks. You always have to have the material above the track line.

Honda3 & TheBennyB thanks for the replies
Would anyone know if you used micro servos inside the arms very well secured and something like panio wire for pushing pulling and general moving of the bucket and arms would it work??

Re: choice of excavator i need help

You'd be redoing all the electronics then. Gotta remember these are toy grade so it's all circuit boards, not components to swap out. You'd have to get atleast a 6-8 ch TX/RX, ESC's for the drive motors, etc.

Re: choice of excavator i need help

Kinda like giving a rust bucket a new paint job...not much point.

Re: choice of excavator i need help

Hi TheBennyB yes I would use all new up to date electrics on it I think

Hi Northern Farmer I know what your saying and I kinda agree but funds being what they are virtually none existence I will have to work with a rusty bucket with no bottom and holes in it's sides lol

Hey Dus, I don't mean to high jack your post but what radio units can be used?

Just a basic 6-9 channel, but all are mode1-2 how do you get stick feature on these??

Thanks

Re: choice of excavator i need help

Hi Percy
I would look into using a 2.4ghz radio gear I have a lot of hobby king radio gear (as there cheap as chips to buy) in my tamiya trucks

Re: choice of excavator i need help

I assume none of these are metal components, are they atleast 'good' plastic like the Bruders that sometimes get converted?

The bruder and servo, bruder and actuonics ones seem to atleast be good for up to crumb rubber or occasionally soft loose dirt. If you've got to restart it with an empty shell, why pay for parts you're going to scrap

Re: choice of excavator i need help

yea, the hobby engine is decent plastic, thinner though. Definitely could run into flex issues. If he's just planning on moving potting soil should be ok.

Re: choice of excavator i need help

I did a bruder conversion with MagomRC hydraulic kit and that thing is awesome! Given I have not used a real all metal one before but I can dig thru loose dirt and sand. Its a blast.

Re: choice of excavator i need help

Hi all
I'm not sure if I would use it or just have it as a load on my tamiya trailer and keep it rc just in case I want to sell it on later or maybe use it

Re: choice of excavator i need help

The top race has plenty of power to load and unload itself on a trailer.
