King Hauler - Yet another W900

Last summer, my son and I went halvesies on a fully-loaded RTR Knight Hauler with box trailer. Because one wasn't enough, this winter, we went halvesies on a loaded King Hauler. Not quite RTR but a good price, built and in mostly operable condition.

The King in primer:

We admired it and discussed mods and what direction to take it. That's what you do when you are a co-owner/operator. No snap decisions, everything goes to committee. We came to the conclusion that it would need a good radio and a gear reduction first and foremost. We decided to test a 6EX and go with a 3:1 GRU. But then it got a little fuzzy. We wound up agreeing that a mid-70's W900 in Snowman's colors, though not original, would be a fun project. So here is the start.

Looks promising, very often the king hauler gets converted to a peterbilt (including my one) so it's cool to see a few k dub's appearing now.

Thanks Snowman. We'll see if it actually comes out looking like a KW. I'm not having any luck sourcing a grill. I started painting the cab and built the stacks while waiting for the black coat to dry.

Finally got to a point where I could get more paint work done. I went back to primer to get rid of some horrid spider webbing. I was hoping that it would look good from 10ft. but it actually looks good close-up. I'm really happy with how it came out.

This truck is an idol, so do snowman and the bandit justice. So far you've nailed it, keep it up.

Nice paint work! You've definitely got the masking down pat. I rarely get breaks in the paint that clean. That is very nice.

Re: King Hauler - Yet another W900

Thanks espee. I used Tamiya masking tape and Tamiya TS paints. The tape is thin, easy to work with, and comes in varying widths. Tamiya paint is more like automotive paint which is much thinner than regular rattle can paint. I let the black base coat cure for a few days before handling and applying the mask. The thin black pinstripes on the gold graphics as well as the gold pinstripe along the fenders is Pactra Trim Tape. Again, very thin, easy to work with, and comes in varying widths and colors. I finished it with Tamiya TS clear. Only two coats because I was getting worried that I was going to screw up what is to date, my finest paint job. Snowman deserved the respect.

Snowman is rolling...
