Michigan Gravel Train

I started on this one late last year. I took a break from it for a while but have been back at it this week. A bit more work to do on it but it's coming along.

I see what you mean about the suspension, perhaps with regular use it will improve. Gonna take a heavy trk to pull the combo in the dirt! A chunk of plate steel in the trl frame right over 5th wheel?

I think it might Joe. The supplied springs are very stiff so they might soften. On the first trailer I built using them, I changed out the springs in the rear axle so that it sagged a bit. On the longer trailers it isn't as noticeable so the last couple I have left as is. These ones are relatively short so I will "address" the issue with some spacers. The truck is going to need some grunt and traction unless it's run on the flat. Not a bad idea to add some tongue weight.

Thanks, it's not too bad.

I added a push bar to the rear trailer and a few other details yesterday. Need to finish the tarps and get them ready for coating.

Nice job Reg. You are one talented guy. If I had the capabilities and tools that you have for fabricating aluminum, I would never make it to work.

Haha, thanks. I went so far as to "make it my work". Not sure if that was the best decision but it is fun to see the look on peoples faces when I tell them I make toys for adults:jaw:....

I don't do lights. I just drill holes for them where I'm asked.

Reg, did you ever get your box of parts that you were waiting for on this build? If not, maybe this is what happened to them... :p :D

Re: Michigan Gravel Train

I had heard about that Joe but no that's not the issue here. The parts still haven't shown up but they were shipped using Hong Kong post air mail. rcMart is looking into it apparently but they said it can take up to two months for the postal service to determine that they were not delivered. It's been about a month since they started "looking into it" and I've heard nothing from them for three weeks. The parts shipped November 16 so I am tired of waiting to get my money back. I have never used the buyer protection on PayPal but I think it is time to give it a try. I'm not made of money here and losing over $100USD in parts is not helping me any.

No I think it's 6 months which is ridiculously long IMO.

Re: Michigan Gravel Train

I got these parts back from coating on Tuesday morning but I went away for a day and a half right after so I didn't get started on them until yesterday. It is a lot of work just to reassemble all of these parts after coating. Every hole has to be carefully chased with a tap before anything else can happen and that takes some time. Anyway, however many hours later I have this!
