Some of my collection

Long before I was interested in building RC models, I was a big railfan. I can't ever remember a time when I wasn't into trains. These days I collect equipment, but I've had some simple model railroad layouts, not consisting of much more then some track spiked down to a 4x8 sheet of plywood. I will continue to collect models, until the day I finally get the room to build something to run them on again. :D

Here are a few random photos of some of my collection.

After looking at these photos, you should be able to figure out what roads I model most. And maybe my screen name. :D

Very beautiful collection you have there. I also collect trains very similarly to sneaky pete. I will have to take some pictures when I get back home this weekend although my nice Nikon camera is at the girlfriends for now. I mostly collect Delaware & Hudson locomotives and rolling stock but I also have a few New York Central, CSX, and Conrail locomotives. I also have a few G scale items as well. I just love how big they are. Anyways thanks for posting the pictures, they look great. What do you do when they get dusty? I use a camera lens brush and it works wonders without damaging the delicate pieces.

Re: Some of my collection

Hi guys! Thanks for the comments everyone! I've been into hobby forever. I used to collect anything that appealed to me, but a few years back I narrowed my focus and now I just go for the SP, SF, and DRGW equipment. Glad I did. It gives me better self control and I save more money that way.

Dan, I keep my models in a display cabinet, with doors, so dust is never to bad. A tiny amount does sneak in between the seams, but it's easily removed from the models. I have been using 'canned air', for computer or electronic dusting. That seems to get whatever little dust does collect, right off the locos. I haven't had to dust them in a few years. If I ever build a layout, I'll have to deal with it more. That may be a whole different story, as the models will be outside the display cabinet.

Claus, I know they are to clean! Especially for the SP and DRGW. I don't quite have the heart to weather them. :D

Nice collection, pretty engine heavy there!

I have some Marklin Mini Club stuff, couple starter sets, track expansion sets and a cable car. I'm thinking I'll make a layout in a coffee table with a few thing's going on.

Wow, quite a collection. Is it Athearn Genisis? Have been into trains to, but today it´s only bigger construction equipment.
Was more fancy about Western Pacific and Tidewater Southern. Did a lot of detailing to match specific protos.

Dan, I have a liking for the WP too. Have a few nice locomotives decorated for that road. All these locomotives in the photos are Overland Models. I also have some Kato, Atlas, Proto 2000, and Athearn power.

Thanks Thor! Yeah, coffee table layout are very cool! In N scale, I take it?

Thanks! Kind of hard to let some of these models go. With limited productions runs as the norm, a guy really has to pay attention to the new releases, and sometimes spend more all at once, if you don't want to miss out.

Nope, in Z! I think it's about the same size though.
:D

Dad bought it a few years back to make a full featured layout in a small space but then realized it was too **** small for him to work with. I set up a basic layout for him on a timer to run an hour a day to keep the track working. Fun little train.

Re: Some of my collection

Z? Good grief! Those are about half the size of N scale, I think. :D I've seen some nice N scale coffee tables layouts, under glass. Something like a 24x36 or 48" table will easily fit a nice loop of track in N scale. I believe N scale is 1/160 scale. HO, 1/87 scale. Just for comparison sake.

Re: Some of my collection

The Z scale is really fricking impressive, the minute details of the engines, the rods moving around on the wheels etc, crazy craftsmanship. The one engine I have can either pick up power from the rails, or the over head power thing a majig. Forget what it's called but Marklin sells an overhead power set.
For as small as they are, the detail and functionality is amazing.

Catenary, Thor. :D And in Z scale, that is impressive.

Seems many of us share similar hobbies or roots. I have always been interested in surface transportation and big machines. Trucks trains and construction equipment.
I'm N scale. Mostly Modern freight Conrail prior to the split. I also have a couple steam locos. Like most waiting for the space to model. In Ohio I was active in N-trak. No groups close to my house. I have seen some pretty impressive Z scale set ups at train shows in San Antonio.
