access to a laser cutter

anybody have access to a laser cutter?

I was looking to buy a trailer from a guy that cuts parts
until he gave me a price of $4500.00 just for the cutting
this guy already has the cad file so all he would have to do is
inlarge the program I guess. claims it will take 3 4x10 sheets of steel
to cut all the parts. do you think hes yanking me?

back when I worked in a sheet metal shop I ran a punch press
and would make 1000's of the same parts all day long just by
feeding new sheets of metal into the machine

did you do the setup to run those 1000's of parts ? price is more then likely high because he don't want to be bothered by a 1 off . Is he yankin you . depends on what the print is .

Re: access to a laser cutter

the guy makes the same trailer in 1/64 scale so I asked if he could do it in 1/14. he said yup. 2 months later I get a price of 4500. now I priced the
3 sheets @ $110 each in NY. if the cad file he has can be enlarged
add that time then actual laser time ??? still cant see it costing anywhere near

how fast can a laser cut .060 metal?

With three sheets of steel it sounds like he's making it 1/4 scale and not 1/14. In 1/14 it would only take around one 4x5 sheet and then some would be left over.

the main deck is 22'' in 1/64 and scales up 8'2'' in 1/14
then there 4 extra jeeps plus the crossmembers
