My excavator build in slow motion

Ive been working on a highly top secret excavator in 1\14 scale. Until now! Its not so secret any more! Been building it for just shy of 2 years now. I started the build and then started buying tools shortly after. Mainly a mill and a small lathe from harbor fraight. Been learning as i go and rebuilding as i go. So here is where i am.http://rs950.pbsrc.com/albums/ad344/...h=480&fit=clip

Nice! Any particular model look you are going for? Or just freelancing it?

Re: My excavator build in slow motion

I was going of off a 1\64 scale match box for size reference and it ended up being a little bigger than the bruder 320. Then i really started rebuilding and i think i am going for a hitatchi z axis but it will prob. Be a smaller to mid sized one. I am happy with it so far i need tracks. I am thinking magom tracks or the china kat tracks not sure yet. I am waiting for the hood to get back to me, i had my dad take it cause we never hang out and i wanted him to help me, then his mom died and we all havent gotten much done... But it is an all metal hood. Not much detail for the counter balance but it still looks good.

I have been doing some brass work lately. Fine tuning some fittings. My valve is 5 mm and everything else is 3 mm. I hope to have pump and valves with 5 mm and everything else 3mm. For some reason i can only post one pic at a time on my phone. So sorry for 1 pic replies

Re: My excavator build in slow motion

Luckily when i showed my grandpa at thanks giving, cause he owned a hydraulics shop for years, he had said if you solder them onto the ram then they will worp the bore and they need to be re-honed! I was going to solder them straight to the ram next! Its easier than you think to solder them to, but soldering the main boom lines sucked cause the aluminum was disapating the heat then the solder balled up amd looks crappy now. Paint should hide it a little bit!

I also got my hood back! Well he addwd 3/4 instead of 1/4 i giess i will cit ot down to 1/2 so it worked out good. Next is maybe a little more detail here and their then some body work and hopefully i will paint it for the last time. I have painted it countless times and yellow was the last one and i hated it every time so hitachi is the colors next!http://i950.photobucket.com/albums/a...psu4qzppkt.jpg

And i am trying to make a brass oil tank it does not leak so far so i guess i will build a lid and go from their.

Your dad's handiwork on the engine hood looks pretty sweet!

I started out with a benchtop lathe like that, sure didn't long to out grow it! :D

Re: My excavator build in slow motion

I built the hole thing by hand it was the first piece i had started with. Dad was supposed to fill in the holes also but thats ok. And for that lathe....... I love it but it could be better! Ive learned to deal with it. I had to doctor it up a bit to. Its small and it works good enough.

Re: My excavator build in slow motion

When i cant figure somthing out and the budget wont allow to purchase anything i let everything sit for a few days then i see what needs to be done and how!

http://i950.photobucket.com/albums/a...psvimcdhdm.jpg

Well i finished my tank and built a filler neck that will end up using an o ring to help seal and keep the lid on and will also be my dip stick for oil levels!
