Tamiya Reinforced Output Shaft?

Has anybody bought one of these? I'm guessing it's hardened? Stella models says "Attach this reinforced shaft in place of kit-supplied standard Gear Shaft B for more efficient power transmission and excellent durability".

Re: Tamiya Reinforced Output Shaft?

you'll chew up the nylon gears, the drive shaft cups and/ or the drive shaft grub screws will come loose before you do any damage to the shaft!

Most useful thing in that bag is the extra tube of grease

I was just wondering what people's reaction would be. I can't really see a need for it either. I did upgrade to the brass gears and stainless synchronizers though.

Well whoever's it is, it looks like they forgot the grease. How would any metal gears last without grease?

Re: Tamiya Reinforced Output Shaft?

The only thing Ive stuffed is the gear change rod in my second truck,
When I was setting up the sevo - gear change travel I bent the rod a little cause the power of the hitec I didnt set up the sevo travel properly and epa on it, not that its a big problem for me as I only wanted one gear in it and used two of the black plastic locking pins that go on the out side of the gear box,
But that was my fault not the tamiya product and then I just disconnected the gear sevo and drove the truck a few times with a load on it to find the best gear for it and locked it in.....
Sorry just realised your talking about the shaft's the the cogs go on, it just sounds like a gimick from tamiya to make you spend more money, if any thing the cogs are going to go long before the shaft will from tamiya, Ive heard of cogs going but not the shafts in the gearbox

Cheers Tracy

HAH! that's funny Emil  ...and true! The only failed part I have ever had in a stock tranny is the top middle aluminum gear for 2nd in the white GL that has a million scale miles in over a decade of run time. ;)

That "HD output shaft" is about as necessary & useful as the brass helical gears... sucker's play.

The radical amount of wear on that above trans is probably less about lube & more about what that in runner brushless motor's top speed is set to?

I picked up a couple of those Reinforced Shaft Kits off of eBay, might be snake oil but am looking forward to installing them in my transmissions.
