I'll start this thread to show what I am doing currently and splice the other one when I get it caught up to date later this winter. ;)

Been having some rainy days again, so can't do much on the farm and can't haul out of the basement either... the holding area atop the south wall seemed like a good idea last winter, but when it came time to haul out, not alot of space for a loader or excav to load trucks. So time for some more digging! Measured down 10 inches and cut straight across.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...9/IMG_0171.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...9/IMG_0168.jpg

I swept the majority of the dirt lumps off by hand, but for kicks I brought in the equip to tidy up.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...9/IMG_0172.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...9/IMG_0174.jpg

Now I'll have plenty of 'headroom' for the equip and I'll be able to sit down while loading a truck... my lower back just kills me if I stand in the same spot for more than a minute.

Joe, I bet that air chisel makes you work a lot easier.

I know what you mean about the back, mines shot.

Lil Giants 09-04-2010 01:23 AM

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)

Yeah, the air chisel is a big improvement over the pic axe, more controlled digging without dirt flying everywhere!

I ruined my back with custom grain hauling ten - fifteen yrs ago, too many little bins & shoveling 42mt at a crack!

Showers started last Sat nite thru till Wed, a couple days sun & now they're talking more cloud & rain for next wk starting Sun... I hired a high clearance Case IH S/P sprayer today to desicate my durum, 7-10 days from now (depending on weather) to maybe start combining. My tractor/sprayer, I cruze about 6-9mph & think I'm flying at times doing 250 acres to a fill in 2.5 to 3 hrs. This S/P cruzes 18mph (he's got a buddy seat, I rode along) what a smoooooth ride and great view! 200acres done in just over an hr! He sprayed 800 acres for me in about 7 hrs, including fill time & some road miles... that would take me the better part of two days with my outfit... if I had 300 grand to spend freely ---- hmmmm sweet machine :)

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)

It varies every yr Henry, this yr has been quite cool & wet, it's been getting close to freezing many times in the last few wks, that would really screw shyt up if it freezes within the next two to three wks.

Thanx Martin... started drizzling this afternoon & tomorrow don't look good either... probably have some updates to show in the next few days (& get back on topic lol).

Making it bigger Ace. ;)

There's a local guy here all growing season Chris, I see him (or more specifically "hear him") go out everyday (thank God I live nine miles from the airport, town ppl sure complain about the 5am WAKE UP everyday lol). He's two dollars an acre more and likely wouldn't come exactly when I want him too, he's booked up all the time. The durum that was desicated, it's all in fenced land, the cows will get what the S/P tramps... and durum aint worth f/k all anyway... what a joke for a price compared to two yrs ago.

Cheers Cossett :chug:

About every thirty mile radius there's a plane Dean.

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)

Good to see your return Kevin, the patch is letting up some so you have time for hobbies again?

I've been tinkering a few days a week in the quarry the last couple wks, tidying up the last of the loose soil from the sw corner (above photos), then I'll be back to digging in the crawl space again.

My winter storage area is filling up quickly, as winter weather has been here nearly two wks already and I didn't have the chance beforehand to completely haul everything out... what a bytch of yr for wet weather, set new records of 26 inches rainfall from April - October. What little the sun did shine, I was busy with the farm... I still have a couple hundred bales to pick, but not going to do it @ -25!

White trk was on the bench last wkend, R&R broken and worn parts. I've never broke an inter-axle driveshaft before. lol

On another note, I got a confirmation email from Vario Germany, that my JD850 shipped out Friday, and a phone call today from FedEx Calgary that it has arrived & awaiting to clear Customs. They tell me I should have it by Wed 5pm... though I wonder, the roads are pretty ugly out there... I hope it doesn't end up on one of the many trks I see flipped over on the news nearly everyday haha

Thanks for the update Joe, I see lots still happening in the pit... If your new loader shows up on Wednesday that would have to be a record for postal service. I am waiting over two weeks for parts just from across the border !

Christmas will come early for you this year, I can't wait to see the new machine working in the pit...

Hey Joe, the patch is pretty busy for us guys still, we are flat out. We are doing all the big shale gas work and it is keeping us going big time. I have just been making a little more time for the hobby again. I sure missed it... Awesome progress on the pit! And good call on putting the 740 dump box on your ADT it looks really good.

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)

The record for fastest shipment is 2.5 days from Ireland, I bought my WA500 2nd hand. Getting anything from the states is absolutely ridiculous, it always takes forever. The last time I ordered from Stahl in Germany, took about eight days.

Yeah, the Stahl adt has been working exceptionally well, I just need to get a better radio for it. I'm looking at these Spektrum 2.4mhz, maybe that'll correct some of the glitching issues I am having with some of these FM controlled models.

Definitely looking forward to putting together this JD850 excavator. For those not familiar with this model, it's an approx 100mt sized hoe and here's a couple of build threads from skilled craftsmen who have added alot of details to the model kit by their own hand.

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)

The 850 arrived late yesterday afternoon and boy oh boy was the box beat up & in tathers! Is FedEx normally that wreckless?!

I got some damage on the boom & stick... I wonder what this material is that's formed around the steel framework & how am I going to repair it? That's about all I see for damage so far. It was a bunch of small boxes within one big box and the undercarriage box was in bad shape too! I guess I'll have to assemble it 1st to see if there isn't any distortion.

It really pizzes me off how much I get hammered for shipping and my goods arrive to me like this!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...9/IMG_0197.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...9/IMG_0196.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...9/IMG_0195.jpg

Took me a few hrs to clear my workbench, been a long time since I've seen this much space! :o:D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...9/IMG_0194.jpg

Here's the other workbench and no, I didn't move anything more than a couple of screw jars over from the "cleaned" bench. I need more shelves!!!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...9/IMG_0202.jpg

On the left is kit stock Stahl bucket, middle is the one I make that's 50% larger and right is the 850's bucket  I think the Mammoth will see alot more work than it has in several yrs. :D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...9/IMG_0198.jpg

This is just a few pieces of the undercarriage, it "feels" heavier than my entire Stahl excav.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...9/IMG_0201.jpg

Hmmm... where to start?

You would think if their going to ship something that pricey and that far that they would ship it in a wood crate. Did you take pics of the box and did you have insurance on the shipping? I hate that for you Joe.

Joe. If you can find the ear and it's not completely destroyed you might be able to JB weld it back in. I know the stuff has saved my butt a couple of times. Looks like it sure had a rough ride. Can't wait to see more pictures.

This looks as though it might keep you busy for a while..Dam those shipping companys ...Like Rob said that jb weld is pretty tough and very easy to shape with a dremmal tool .Looks as though it has some metal where the pin goes so you shouldnt lose any strength ...Might have to hone you bodywork skills though...So far whats your opinion of craftsmanship and Quality?

To bad about the damage Joe, we just can't win. But on the upside I see a new wing (addition) going to be added to your house because there is going to be a big hole in the ground that will need to be covered up ! ! Keep us in the loop throughout the construction build...

Hello Daniel,

50/50, the cereals didn't fair too well for quality and are going to be tough to market. The oil seeds, flax & brown mustard, xllnt yields & quality. Brown mustard prices are rather flat & it may be a yr or two till they improve & I sell, but flax is the money crop this yr & it'll pull my butt out of the fire & allow me to farm another yr... wish I had grown more acres of it. :D

I'd seen that 2nd vid last wk while searching thru yt for something "rc jaw crusher". That one looks mass produced, have you seen it for sale anywhere? The model looks like it's plastic construction and probably not very robust. I wonder material they are putting thru it in the vids?
