First Semi build
 

Hello gentleman, I was hoping to get some answers and maybe some advice.
This will be my first semi build and I chose the grand hauler.
I would like to eliminate the molded headlights and am curious as to which method is the best way to do so. I currently am in need of a radio system for this build and am torn between a 6 channel and a 4 channel pistol radio. Any thoughts please? Thanks in advance.

hello there ad2tudes.
really only 2 ways of ditching the molded in headlights.
one is to cut them out an shape a filler peice an glue that in place and fill over that with bondo an sand it smooth. option 2 is to the trucescaler\c shapeways page an get a pair of his 3d prinited peterbilt fenders. Now for radio it depends on what you plan to do if you plan to run a tamiya mfc unit the light nad sound unit you will need atleast a 4 channel stick radio to make it work correctly tho id advice going with 6 channels so in future if you want to add soemhing you have open channels to do so but if your going to use a regualr esc an not the mfc you can use a pistol grip radio an be jsut fine with it i hope all this helps you out.

If one does a little research, you can find a number of places that tell you how to configure a digital trim radio to work with the Tamiya MFC. It is just a matter of assigning a switch and adjusting the dual rates. And with that knowledge if you understand how to program the radio... One could make a computerized radio such as the Fly Sky FS GT3R pistol grip radio work with the MFU. And with 2.4 spread spectrum technology, people on the same channel are a thing of the past!

Although I do LOVE the custom programmability of the FrSky Taranis Plus (16 channels that are independently controlled for $250)

IMHO Tamiya needs to update the MFU to include low volt cut off for using LiPo batteries, as it currently lacks this and I do not own NiCads.

Dean, There is a low voltage cutoff in the MFU but it is not specific for LiPos. The MFU will shut down and restart when the battery is low. This has happened to me with all of the batteries I have used whether LiPos or Nicads.

Not trying to steal this thread but the info needs to get out.
