drop axle stearing question?
i want to put a drop axle on the scania, and i'm going back and forth in my head.
do i need to make it stear? if so then i got to find space but if not i can make up someting pretty easy and quick. this is the truck . do ineed to make it strear? i rather not but i think it maybe kind of close to the front and will widen my turn area. any would be great. http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j8...ps94fd9257.jpg |
Re: drop axle stearing question?
Given the short wheelbase, I think you'll be better off making it a steer axle. Unless you plan to lift it for taking the sharper corners? I think most of these European trucks put the lift axles behind the drivers, and if they have two axles in front, they are twin steer axles, no lift.

Re: drop axle stearing question?
well heres the problem now. o=laying around with it. the stearing servo's in the way and i can't move it to the front. the brushless crawler motor i got is really long and it just fits, with shift servo so i got to come up with a way to add the axle and keep the stear there two.

Re: drop axle stearing question?
hmm yeah I'd say it has to steer or you will drag it or reduce your turning traction...
might have to search youtube to see what you can find for 4 axle euro trucks and see if there is any in depth videos? |
Re: drop axle stearing question?
Could it be a dummy steer? Just allow friction to turn the wheels and have it spring centered? Maybe some caster angle to help it track as well?

Re: drop axle stearing question?
I think you will want it to steer with that short of a wheel base. You might be able go attach a rod from your forward steer axels back to the pusher? You will have to find the correct angle so they don't fight each other when turning..

Re: drop axle stearing question?
well the big thing so far if the room and placement of the servo. the stock place is kind of in the way. but i can't really move it no room up front

Re: drop axle stearing question?
Do it with a drag link instead of 2 servo's! look at the picture's in this link, http://www.smsuspension.ca/products.html
