Welcome to the site. Home depot has a pretty good selection of aluminum and with basic tools you can build something pretty nice! Styrene can also be very strong. Running gear isn't too hard to build...

Looks awesome! :D If you are having trouble with the "cable" thickness bs strength try braided fishing line. Super flexible and you can get like 150 lb test. Not cheap, but awesome stuff. Learn...
