Re: 1:10ish Reach Stacker for "conex" cargo containers

The grabbing mechanism proper is M4 bolts turned down to a point on the ends. All of my containers have a standardized spacing for the top holes. Trying to make the pins motorized would have made an...

Re: 1:10ish Reach Stacker for "conex" cargo containers

The grabber mechanism is made to adjust to the various cargo containers I've built, which makes it wider than I would have liked.

I also...

Re: 1:10ish Reach Stacker for "conex" cargo containers

The chassis is welded steel channel, along with a ten pound steel block on the back as counterweight. (Did I mention a bit of overengineering?)

There's no suspension, so the axles are just mounted...

Re: 1:10ish Reach Stacker for "conex" cargo containers

Conex size (specifically height) does however affect stacking ability, and I really really wanted to be able to stack three containers. Which is possible, just requires a long (and strong) arm.

Re: Bruder Piggyback Forklift

Apologies, one of these days I'll learn to check for previous experience before I go frothing off at the mouth. Might be a little Arduino happy :|

Wrt the current limit, though, I just drive one...

Re: 1:10ish 3D printed DOT "Construction Ahead" sign display

Or these are shaped such that you could print and glue together.

In retrospect, mebbe I shoulda done that and then glow-in-the-dark painted the white, get some a real reflect aspect to those...

Re: 1:10ish 3D printed DOT "Construction Ahead" sign display

I really hope the Public Works people finish the roadwork, or I'll be printing toys forever =)) Had another "How hard can it be" epiphany:

Re: Bruder Piggyback Forklift

Yeah, love me those beacons as they're so simple.

And M3.5? Who thought of that? Sheesh.

I bow to your successful use of the N20's. I've only recently looked at them as I've previously used the...

Re: Bruder Piggyback Forklift

Dayum, that came out well. Coupla things I hadn't thought of there, as I blithely assumed the front/fixed wheels would be the driven ones. In your pix, though, I see where there prolly isn't room for...

Re: 1:10ish 3D printed DOT "Construction Ahead" sign display

Stuck in traffic the other day, saw one of these signs on the road, and then cones dropped at the sidewalk with bars across them to block foot traffic. Another "How hard can it be?" moment ... hmm,...

Re: 1:10ish Alvis Stalwart 6x6 high mobility carrier, wrongest of the wrong

Well, I can't take credit for the design since it's semi-accurate to the original. I don't envy the crazy people who have Stollies now, though. Keeping my Fiero running is nothing in comparison!

Re: 1:10ish Alvis Stalwart 6x6 high mobility carrier, wrongest of the wrong

Heh, thanks! It's not perfect by any means, flubbed a couple bits, and some I had to take liberties with. The crane, particularly, isn't exact, but like I said the cylinders (actuators) only come in...

That's about it for photos of the build. Here's some of the final CAD work, split up into various sections:

Re: 1:10ish Alvis Stalwart 6x6 high mobility carrier, wrongest of the wrong

Also jumping around a bit, doing detail work, namely lights and shackles and such on the cab, and a winch because they're fun and cheap. That's the back end of the PLS up there, it gets its own shelf...

Re: 1:10ish Alvis Stalwart 6x6 high mobility carrier, wrongest of the wrong

Speaking of trial and error in geometry, the crane was another pain point. I've done a crane before on my PLS (HEMTT, whatever), but this one is shaped differently. I also wanted to try and stay as...

Re: 1:10ish Alvis Stalwart 6x6 high mobility carrier, wrongest of the wrong

Re: 1:10ish Alvis Stalwart 6x6 high mobility carrier, wrongest of the wrong

The next engineering challenge was slipshafts at each wheelstation. I needed a really short driveshaft (CV joint, whatever you wanna call it) with just a bit of slip, but of course the RC driveshafts...

Re: 1:10ish Alvis Stalwart 6x6 high mobility carrier, wrongest of the wrong

The local plastic shop was limiting their days and hours due to COVID, so I 3D printed a bunch of parts for which I'd usually just go buy styrene sheet. In retrospect this was not ideal, but...

Re: 1:10ish Alvis Stalwart 6x6 high mobility carrier, wrongest of the wrong

So the first step was to throw together a CAD mockup to get an idea of size, sort out what tires would work for scale, etc:

Was...
