Re: Bob's M1070 (maybe)

I've actually found proper scale tires, with michelin markings and everything. but they're $25 each! When I need 9, that makes it rather ludicrously expensive.

Re: Bob's M1070 (maybe)

Just had a look at your build Szczerba, looks beefy!
Id just scratchbuild the body, its just flat panels so only need $10 worth of styrene sheet.

Im up-armouring mine as well, which actually...

Re: Bob's M1070 (maybe)

Ahh ok. Thats for the M1070F, a version sold to Europe.
I'm going for the US M1070 HET, which has a squarer hood.

Must be said though, this M1070F with its massive tyres looks pretty awesome:...

Re: Bob's M1070 (maybe)

I think our definitions of reasonable cost differ! lol

The cab is easy, its a basically a box with all flat pieces, easy to make from scratch with $5 worth of styrene sheet.

But complex bits...

Re: Movie Optimus Prime build

While painting the side panels that shiny chrome in the post above, I ran out.
And as was pointed out to me, some of my mishaps on this build can be traced to my method of running out of something,...

Re: Bob's M1070 (maybe)

The M1070 is still on my to do list! Just gotta finish off Optimus Primes trailer, then paint my truck made from leftovers from the OP build, then will be on it!

I've been seriously looking at 3d...

Re: Movie Optimus Prime build

Here we go, this shows the reflection. Not mirror shiny, closer to stainless steel, but works for me. Good for paint!

Re: Movie Optimus Prime build

So i was doing some googling looking for alternate ways to chrome the side panels, and was looking at the multi-part spectra chrome paint. Expensive, but not impossible. Doing some reading it...

Re: Movie Optimus Prime build

I have a feeling it was partly due to the thickness of the vinyl I used. Was difficult to get it into the little ridges of the styrene.

I actually found a local place that does that awesome multi...

Re: Movie Optimus Prime build

Well i just applied the chrome vinyl to the side panels for the trailer, and am really unhappy with the result. Just a bit uneven, too many little defects, and given the size of the panels and...

Re: Movie Optimus Prime build

I found a few little things todo to the truck still.
1: Add a touch of red paint into the autobot logo on the front grille. Easy to do.
2: Add coiled hoses for trailer attachment (they do appear in...

Re: Movie Optimus Prime build

I'm not sure i can quite bring myself to say it, for fear of jinxing something, but there is a distinct possibility of a chance that maybe, just maybe... the truck is... finished!

Re: Movie Optimus Prime build

Actually no I forgot lol
I'll take some in a few days, I need to drill out a couple of holes in the rear light plate for the reversing and indicator lights. But the 3 lights in each fender work, you...

Re: optimus prime transformers

Nice! Looks about the right scale too. I've been thinking about a Traxxas 1/16 rc car to go woth mine, can get a Camaro body for it. But same width as the truck, so not quite the right scale.

I ordered another control unit from another shop and manufacturer. probably exactly the same underneath but was slightly cheaper. Got it today, hooked it up, and worked first go.
Clearly not a...

Re: Movie Optimus Prime build

Yeah the colours work well. That blue seems almost Ultraviolet, seems to suck in the sunlight! But given that i havent done any styrene re-work like this before, i think i'm allowed to call this one...
