Re: LINN Model DD-15 "HafTrak" Dump (1/14)

Awesome to see this getting worked on again. The drivecup and pinion mount are beautiful. Do you plan on swapping all the printed parts for metal, or only high stress parts?

Re: Metal Hobi MH-245 kit as Hitachi ZX245 excavator

Thanks Jerry. I hope the tie down system is as solid as expected.

Tapping the stainless steel nutplates sucks, so I ordered some aluminum nutplates. Thread tear out will be a concern.

Re: Metal Hobi MH-245 kit as Hitachi ZX245 excavator now is a little strap to secure the bucket and slew

I needed a new brake bleeder for my real truck. Did the vacuum style, so maybe I can use the same to degas the resin. Haven't tried it yet.

The little ZX did get its first taste of real dirt....

Re: Metal Hobi MH-245 kit as Hitachi ZX245 excavator

Tried out the elevated pour. So far so good. Still has small internal bubbles when cut, but OK for my use.

Re: Metal Hobi MH-245 kit as Hitachi ZX245 excavator

Been quiet around here in all sections.

I was too slow to paint the kenco and it rusted up. Recut it in stainless and painted it. Found some super thin .15mm THK M1.6 washers for assembly....

Not familiar with P&F, but I'd love to make it. Maybe Friday after work or Monday.

Re: KATO HD308US

Love the tiny machines! What are the approximate undercarriage dimensions? Will it be electric or hydraulic?

Re: Metal Hobi MH-245 kit as Hitachi ZX245 excavator

Electromagnet in the barrier lift works pretty well. Ended up using a brushed ESC instead of a switch so I can power it with fully battery voltage, then limit it to 5V via travel endpoints on the...

Re: Is this hobby dying in the US?

Agreed.

Construction modelers have options for electric and hydraulic RTR excavators around a $1k price point. Lots of mainstream options to purchase. Those machines will naturally create...

Re: Metal Hobi MH-245 kit as Hitachi ZX245 excavator

Been looking for an easy way to add some aux connections near the bucket. Technically there is room for 4 more valves, but I'd rather not be that tightly packed. I'm going to do electric. Will be...

Re: Cat 385c

Very nice machine. I'm not familiar with Oro2 but see on their website they specialize in very big Cat equipment.

Re: Wooldridge 1940s Bottom-Dump Truck

The vintage machines have a cool aesthetic to them. Excited to see your choice of drive, steer and dump actuators

Re: Micro TIG welders

Understandable that other things keep us busy. Model making is supposed to be fun, not worrisome.

I do think the machine is DC with dome agitation options which may mimic some aspects aspects of...

Re: Micro TIG welders

Ddmckee, im waiting patiently for some bead shots!

Played with 5052 aluminum. No better than 6061. Looks like I'm sticking to steel.

Re: Micro TIG welders

18-22 GA 1008 cold rolled as first choice or A36 pickled and oiled.

I should have some scrap suitable for cutting a weld to see penetration. Try and get some results over the weekend.

Re: Micro TIG welders

Drawing down what I have is interesting. Would at least let me see if I have a wire size issue or an alloy issue. I found some small wire from Gesswein in the diameters ddmckee mentioned.

I'm...

Re: Micro TIG welders

1mm .040" 6061 aluminum. No filler since I cant find 6061 wire small enough. Tried Er4043 .030" MiG filler, but it's a bit too big to melt evenly. Best results have a crack across the weld which is...

Re: Micro TIG welders

As a side note:
carbon steel welds turn out great and are super easy. 18ga at 75 Watt-seconds is pretty strong and looks nice. A little bit more penetration would be nice.
Brass is very sooty/ugly...

Re: Micro TIG welders

Sunstone says the default ignition retracts the electrode at the same time the arc fires. There is an option to have the arc fire after the electrode has retracted. The final setting is "pre heat"...
