Re: Lieberr power!!

It's an awesome video. Something tells me that would be illegal in the states, probably get a huge fine from OSHA for making him operate it or some stupid thing.

If you look carefully it has some...

Re: Cat 777D Mining Truck

Re: Cat 777D Mining Truck

A form tap has no flutes or cutting edges. It creates the threads by displacing the metal into the shape (basically makes a thread that is strong like a forging). Because it displaces it requires a...

Re: Cat 777D Mining Truck

For the small holes in aluminum you should be able to use forming taps, which are much stronger. Just remember that they require a slightly larger tap drill to work. I have hand tapped some 0-80's...

Re: Question for a machinist

Oh and in the description of aluminum. T-6 (typically T6-511) is the temper. 6061 or 7075 is the alloy number, both of those alloys can be had in T-6, yet are 2 different material both in strength...

Re: Question for a machinist

Aluminum is a string mess usually, using a HSS bit I assume?? You could try and rig up a chip breaker top piece kinda like old wood planes have. it might help but HSS and aluminum mostly spells...

Re: Question for a machinist

Yep, some older carbide insert tooling I've seen had separate chip breaker that you could slide upto and away from the edge depending on how big of chip you were making. most modern, average sized...

Re: Hydraulic pump pics?

The gears would be a pair of the same size, and should be special pump gears not ordinary power trans gears. The pump gears are shaped differently to make the gear pair seal up to each other better....

Re: Powerful non-hydraulic Excavator from italy?

Re: centering

135 deg drills are a bit stronger than 118 deg and seems like I can push them harder and they work better in some steels. Split-point drills help prevent walking the most.

Running the tool a bit...

Re: centering

Haven't tried those, but do use Stub length drills quite often and try to avoid the cheap import brands as they flex and break all the time, but the better stubs are pretty good.

In the vertical...

Re: Some pics of my shop

Well, that was for a customer. If I had something to go by for a larger model I'm sure I could do it, just haven't put the time in to trying to design one yet.
